Two persons died Friday of health problems worsened by heat, raising the heat-related death toll in the country to 11 in two days.

Ambulance services in Bucharest registered more than 1,000 calls for medical help in a 24-hour period and the Romanian Health Ministry provided additional telephone lines to first aid centers, the Romanian Web site reported.Meteorologists predicted the heat wave to ease in the middle of next week.
Exceptionally high temperatures also sweep Slovakia, Austria, Hungary, Bulgaria, Serbia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Montenegro and Macedonia.
