Slovenia Invited to OECD Membership

Other countries that have been invited to full membership at the OECD ministerial meeting in Paris include Chile, Israel, Estonia and Russia.

The OECD last expanded its ranks in 2000 by letting in Slovakia and it has come under pressure to admit new members.

Around 16 countries were seeking to join the group whose members share a commitment to free-market democracy.

OECD Secretary General Angel Gurria told reporters there was no timeframe for conclusion of the negotiations and there was no guarantee they would end in membership for all five countries.
