Mladjan Dinkic says the source of capital of companies bidding in tenders in Serbia will be verified. On Monday, the economy and regional development minister announced the Law on Privatization would be amended in ten days. Changes would include the introduction of stricter qualification criteria for bidders taking part in the privatization of Serbian companies. Dinkic stressed that after consultations with Interior Minister Dragan Jocic and Justice Minister Dusan Petrovic, he had decided to reinforce certain provisions of the Privatization Law. “I was surprised to see that the Law does not actually bar persons with criminal records or those under investigation from participating in our tenders,” he noted, adding that the Law would be amended accordingly. “From now on, persons with criminal records or under investigation will not be allowed to qualify for tenders,” Djinkic stressed. He added that potential bidders’ sources of capital of would be checked first. “Not all money is good money. Money obtained through criminal activities or corruption cannot pass.” “We are introducing a provision, whereby the Privatization Agency, following the completion of tenders and auctions, will submit records on the winners to the Directorate for Money Laundering Prevention, MUP and the Tax Admisnitration so as to ascertain the ‘cleanness’ of the capital before signing the purchasing contract,” explained Dinkic.
