Government puts more money in NIP

Since this year’s budget has not yet been adopted, NIP draws funds from temporary budget financing regime. There are 250 ongoing projects within NIP which will soak up 19 billion dinars by the end of March, 4 billion dinars more than it was originally planned.

Economic experts argue that the Serbian economy will thus lose six months due to the politicians’ incapacity to form the new government and adopt this year's republic budget.

The Decree on temporary financing defines the spending regime of tax payers’ money by the time the new government puts the draft year budget plan before the National Parliament.

Milan Parivodić, coordinator of the Ministry of Finance, told B92 that the National Parliament could amend the Budget law and extend the temporary financing regime beyond its expiry date of March 31.

Božidar Đelić, the DS candidate for premiership, expects the new government to be formed by that time and sees no need for the extension of the temporary financing regime by the introduction of the ‘lex specialis’.
