Tribunal: Karadžić request unfounded

The Hague Prosecution believes that Radovan Karadzic’s motion to have all transcripts translated into Cyrillic is unfounded. “Karadzic’s motion has no grounds in the Statute, Code or Practice of the Tribunal, and is completely impossible to fulfill given the Tribunal’s resources,” the Tribunal states in its decision. The Secretariat responded to his motion on August 27, stating that the Tribunal offered the transcripts in only one of the Tribunal’s official languages, and distributed audio transcripts in a language which the defendant could understand in line with court practice. The Secretariat also stated that meeting Karadzic’s demand would be impossible considering the Tribunal’s limited resources. The Prosecution said that it agreed with the Secretariat and was of the opinion that the defendant’s requests should be rejected.
