Prices of some food items, including vegetable oil, sugar and flour, are expected to drop further in the last quarter of 2011. This is according to Sasa Djogovic, an associate of the Market Research Institute, who added that the inflation should also slow down. Inflation and food prices "to continue to drop" The food prices will drop because this year's harvest was good and because of a drop in raw material prices on the global market, he explained. The end-of-the-year inflation will be under 10 percent, but still above the originally projected maximum of 6 percent, Djogovic pointed out. The 2012 inflation should be lower than this year's, but it is still uncertain if the target inflation will be achieved, he told a news conference. According to the National Bank of Serbia data, the goal is to gradually reduce the 2012 inflation from 3-6 percent at the start of the year to 2.5-5.5 percent at the end of 2012. A mild increase in the inflation can be expected at the beginning of next year because of adjustments to products subject to excise taxes and prices controlled by the government, but it should not be as dramatic as at the start of 2011.
