The Serbian government approved at a telephone session on Thursday afternoon a deal signed between Mladjan Dinkic and Slovenian company Gorenje. With it, the company's will make an investment in Zajecar (eastern Serbia), and receive EUR 10,000 for each person they employ, according to a plan of the Ministry of Economy, headed by Dinkic. The decision has caused unhappiness in Valjevo, western Serbia, where Gorenje already has a factory, as well as criticism, including from the Ministry of Finance State Secretary Slobodan Ilic. The plant was originally planned to be built in Valjevo. Ilic said it was unclear what criteria Dinkic had in mind when he arrived at the EUR 10,000 per-new-worker figure, and accused the minister of "working to grab as much financial resources of this country, which he uses in a manner known only to himself, and based on criteria known only to himself, at the expense of most citizens and taxpayers." In his response, Dinkic said that the state secretary "better work to secure as much money as possible from the budget so that all towns in Serbia have modern infrastructure and a network of regional highways, that are key to attracting investments." Beside his role in the government, Dinkic also heads G17 Plus and United Regions of Serbia parties. According to a government statement on Thursday, Gorenje's main location will remain in Valjevo, "like it did after the opening of the factory in Stara Pazova". "It is of national significance that eastern Serbia has obtained such a large investment," the statement reads, adding that "all parts of Serbia should obtain investments and be equally treated".
