The Economy and Agriculture Ministries have announced competitions for giving subsidies and credit for projects promoting ethno-tourism. Ethno-tourism in small villages and the Serbian countryside, along with the various credits and subsidies available, were presented at this year’s tourism fair. Support given for ethno-tourism At the stand of the Tourism Organization of Serbia (TSO), there was a presentation on various ethno-tourism offers and village holiday plans, including statistics on capacities, activities, and offered food and beverages in such locations. TOS secretary for village tourism Jagoda Jovicevic said that progress was made last year in ethno-tourism offers because of the funds given to support its development. Jovicevic said also that the number of young people and people with higher education getting involved with such tourism offers is also increasing. Because of the supporting funds, 20 new households offering holiday accommodations in the municipality of Nova Varos were registered last year. The TOS states that these fairs are good for attracting attention to new forms of tourism, adding that the fact that many people return to places they have already vacationed shows that good work is being done. The organization also states that those who want to expand or improve their ethno-tourism offers have until the end of the year to apply for subsidies and credit for doing so.
