National Employment Service Director Vladimir Ilic says 2010 will see continued activities aimed at preserving existing jobs. "The budget will effectively remain at the same level, with a nominal increase of RSD 200mn, meaning, from RSD 3.5bn to RSD 3.7bn, which will certainly contribute to saving a significant number of jobs," Ilic said of the funds at the disposal of his service. "Goal to save jobs this year" But he at the same time expressed doubt that "many" new jobs will be created this year, adding however that that "does not mean there will be no new employment". "In the year ahead, there will be layoffs just as in 2009. Our goal is humble, to keep the existing level of employment, it wouldn't be realistic to expect some kind of special turnabout," Ilic was quoted. According to him, there was no such reversal last year either, when the GDP fell "only three percent, which is much less than in the more developed countries and the countries in the region".
