Srbijagas is due to give Russia its proposal for the route of the South Stream pipeline within the next 10 days, says Srbijagas CEO Dusan Bajatovic. The final route of the pipeline will not be known before September of this year. By then, according to Gazprom, a technical feasibility study will be conducted to ascertain the profitability of the whole project. “Serbia to propose South Stream route” In an interview with daily Politika, Bajatovic said that it was certain that the pipeline coming from Russia would go under the Black Sea, entering both Bulgaria and Hungary at three points respectively. As things stand, one branch from Bulgaria would go towards Serbia, the other towards Greece, while the destination of the third branch has yet to be determined. Slovenian daily Delo published a map showing the gas pipeline going from Russia under the Black Sea, to Bulgaria and then one branch going towards Romania rather than Serbia, and the other towards Greece. According to this map, the pipeline goes from Romania towards Hungary, Croatia, and Slovenia, barely brushing Serbia. Gazprom, however, claims that the route is still unknown, and that the papers can write whatever they want. One of the options for the South Stream pipeline, which was quickly dismissed, was that it would turn towards Turkey before entering Bulgaria. Gazprom explained that the decision had already been made that the pipeline would go from Russia to Bulgaria, and from there, two branches would go towards Hungary, one via Serbia, the other via Greece.
