The defense industry unions have condemned the state’s refusal to issue export licenses for countries which are not sanctioned by international organizations. In a statement issued in Kragujevac on Tuesday, the unions are asking those most responsible in Serbia to admit who benefits from preventing the defense industry from carrying out export for contracts worth some USD 50mn. No arms export licenses, industry blames govt. “Silence and lack of information about the reasons for not issuing licenses is aimed at more than 7,0000 employees in that branch of industry,” says the statement, which was signed by the chairman of a commission for Serbia's defense industry, Jugoslav Ristic. The unions who signed the statement today bring together representatives from six arms manufacturers, majority-owned by the state.
