European Parliament (EP) Rapporteur Jelko Kacin says the European Commission will propose that Serbia should be granted EU candidate status in October. He added, however, that he did not believe that all EU members were willing to do so individually. Events in Kosovo “will affect EC decision” Kacin believes that the latest events in northern Kosovo and the interruption of the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue would have a negative effect on the view of EU member countries when it comes to deciding on Serbia's EU candidate status application. He told Radio Free Europe that he did not believe that EU member countries in charge of deciding on Serbia's application were willing to grant the country candidate status, especially those countries whose soldiers were now charged with things they did not commit. Kacin underscored that the only way to make progress in the time to come implied returning to the negotiating table and conducting a continuous dialogue which had so far been fruitful, so that living conditions on both sides of the administrative line could improve.
