Brutal retaliation ahead? Iran could launch the notorious Khorramshahr missile

It typically carries a 700-kilogram warhead over a range of 2,000 kilometers, while at shorter ranges of up to 1,000 kilometers it can carry a destructive payload weighing more than 1,500 kilograms.

However, the greatest concern is posed by the heavy ballistic missile "Khorramshahr," developed based on the Soviet R-27 submarine-launched missile.

Its 2,000-kilometer-range version carries an extremely powerful 1,500-kilogram warhead, while the version with a range of up to 4,000 kilometers carries a lighter payload in order to achieve such a distance.

A particular concern is also the cluster warhead for the "Khorramshahr," which Tehran has already used in attacks on Israel, "Defense Express" further reported, according to Jutarnji list.

Intercepting a "Khorramshahr" missile becomes even more complicated if it carries a cluster warhead, as the effectiveness of the defense depends on whether the missile can be destroyed before it releases its so-called submunitions.

However, despite the serious threat, military analysts point out that Iran's stockpiles of medium-range ballistic missiles have been significantly depleted, as Tehran has used a large portion of its arsenal during intense missile attacks on Israel over the past two years.

Additional heavy losses to Iran's missile program were caused by Israeli and U.S. airstrikes targeting Iranian storage facilities, launchers, component production sites, and missile fuel factories.
