New British Prime Minister Andy Burnham has authorized U.S. forces to use British military bases for American defensive strikes against Iran, continuing the policy of his predecessor, Keir Starmer, Bloomberg reported on Tuesday, citing sources.

According to the sources, Burnham will continue the previous government's policy under Keir Starmer regarding approval for the use of British bases in support of U.S. defensive strikes. This means British bases are likely to be used for some of the current American operations against Iran.

Starmer held a meeting with senior ministers and officials on Friday to discuss Britain's policy following the resumption of U.S. operations against Iran earlier this month, according to people familiar with the matter, who spoke on condition of anonymity.

At the meeting, ministers decided to maintain the existing policy allowing U.S. aircraft to use the bases on Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean and RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire, England, for missions aimed at countering Iran's missile threat and targeting locations linked to the Strait of Hormuz.

Burnham, who became prime minister yesterday, was briefed on the discussions and agreed with the decision, the sources said.
