According to the report, U.S. President Donald Trump deployed a B-1 bomber to RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire to carry out what were described as "defensive strikes" against Tehran.

Sources told Axios that the aircraft was used in strikes on Iranian military targets.

The report also states that new British Prime Minister Andy Burnham agreed to continue the policy allowing U.S. forces to use the base for what were described as exclusively "defensive strikes," Bloomberg reported.

Tehran: "Any base used to attack Iran will be a legitimate target"

Iranian officials reacted sharply, accusing the British monarchy of bearing historical responsibility for events in the Middle East.

"We warn the British monarchy, which is the principal cause of the suffering of the peoples of our region and has a dark history of dividing Islamic countries, carrying out massacres, imposing authoritarian governments, and, above all, orchestrating the occupation of Palestine and the creation of the Israeli Nakba, as well as participating in the recent aggression by the United States and the Zionist regime against Iran, not to further worsen its position," the statement said.

Iran specifically condemned the use of B-1 bombers that took off from RAF Fairford.

"As Foreign Ministry officials have also explained, any base used to attack Iranian territory represents a legitimate target for us," Iranian authorities said.

London: "We are ready to defend the country"

The UK Ministry of Defence responded that the armed forces are prepared to protect the country from any kind of attack.

"Our armed forces are ready to protect the United Kingdom from all types of attacks, whether they come from our territory or from abroad. The United Kingdom is prepared to defend itself 24 hours a day, seven days a week," a government spokesperson said.

He added that the country's defence relies on a layered air and missile defence system operated by the Royal Navy, the British Army, and the Royal Air Force, in cooperation with NATO allies.

"The United Kingdom's approach to the conflict remains unchanged — we are committed to defending our citizens, interests, and allies, in accordance with international law, without being drawn into a wider conflict," the spokesperson added.

The report states that former Prime Minister Keir Starmer initially refused to allow Washington to use British bases, despite pressure from the United States.

However, he later approved the use of bases such as RAF Fairford and Diego Garcia for U.S. "defensive strikes."

Trump threatens further strikes

According to the report, Trump said the United States would destroy Iranian bridges and power plants for every ship Iran attacks in the Strait of Hormuz.

"Every time Iran fires a missile, rocket, drone, or any other weapon at a ship in the Strait of Hormuz, the United States will bomb and destroy one bridge or power plant," Trump wrote on the social media platform Truth Social.

Shortly afterwards, according to the report, Iran targeted U.S. positions in Kuwait, Jordan, and Bahrain.
