One social media user claimed that a "crash has been confirmed after the crew reported problems with the aircraft's navigation system to air traffic control." This information cannot be independently verified at this time, and there has been no official confirmation from the relevant authorities.

According to available data, the aircraft took off from Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates at around 15:00 UTC and disappeared from radar screens at 16:21 UTC.

At the time of the last ADS-B signal reception, the data indicated that the aircraft was at an altitude of just 1,110 feet (around 338 meters), with a recorded vertical speed of as much as 22,000 feet per minute. If these figures are accurate, they would correspond to a descent rate of more than 400 km/h.

However, these details should be treated with caution. The Gulf of Oman region is known for frequent interference with GPS and ADS-B signals, meaning such values cannot be independently verified, nor can they be used to determine with certainty what happened to the aircraft.

The missing aircraft is a cargo version of one of the world's most widely used passenger aircraft, the Boeing 737-400, modified into the BDSF configuration. K2 Airways states on its website that the aircraft can carry up to 18,600 kilograms of cargo, or up to 10 standard containers.

According to data from Airfleets.net, the aircraft has the manufacturer's serial number 29210 (line number 3091) and made its first flight on January 8, 1999.

After production, the aircraft was leased to Russia's Aeroflot through GECAS before being converted into a freighter version in 2012. Pakistan's K2 Airways acquired it in December 2024, according to Airfleets.net.

There is currently no official information about the fate of the crew, nor confirmation that the aircraft actually crashed into the sea. Aviation authorities are expected to release more details about the incident in the coming hours.

Pakistan launches search for aircraft

Pakistani authorities have launched a maritime search and rescue operation to locate the missing cargo aircraft carrying five crew members, the Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) said on Tuesday.

The K2 Airways B737 cargo flight first reported a navigation system issue at 21:18 Pakistan Standard Time (PST), according to a PAA statement. It added that the flight was immediately taken over by the Karachi Area Control Centre (ACC).

However, at 21:21, authorities said the aircraft was detected on radar rapidly descending with a "rapid change of heading." They added that radar contact and communication with the aircraft were lost approximately 155 nautical miles west of Karachi.

"Following the incident, the Rescue Coordination Centre was activated, and a coordinated maritime search and rescue operation was launched through various agencies to locate the missing aircraft," the PAA said.

The PAA provided no further details about the aircraft or the rescue operation.
