Major fire contained in the Deliblato Sands: All threatened settlements protected

More than 10,000 firefighters, rescue personnel and members of other emergency services took part in battling the fire. In addition to members of the Emergency Situations Sector, the operation involved pilots from the Helicopter Unit of Serbia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs, volunteer firefighters, members of the Serbian Armed Forces, as well as employees of the public companies Vojvodinašume and Srbijavode.

Teams from Elektrodistribucija Srbije also took part in the operation, along with international firefighting and rescue teams from Romania, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Germany, Hungary and the Russian Federation.

Firefighting efforts were made more difficult by extremely challenging terrain and the complexity of the situation. Nevertheless, the emergency services managed to protect all populated areas within the Deliblato Sands that had been threatened by the fire at some point.

There were no casualties during the operation, and no houses were destroyed.

The forces deployed on the ground will be gradually scaled back depending on the situation, but monitoring and regular inspections of the burned area will continue.

Members of the Emergency Situations Sector and all other services involved will continue their activities at the fire sites to protect the lives and property of citizens.
