Edmond police spokesperson Emily Ward said authorities received reports of a shooting around 9 p.m. on Sunday during a gathering of young people near Lake Arcadia in Edmond.
She added that no arrests have been made so far, according to the Associated Press.
“This is clearly a very frightening situation. We understand the concern of the public and those involved, and we are working extremely hard to identify the suspects. We are speaking with victims and witnesses throughout the area,” Ward said.
She also stated that 10 people were taken to hospitals, while others transported themselves for medical care.
According to her assessment, the injured are in “varying conditions.”
From the hospital system, it was reported that nine people were admitted to hospitals in Oklahoma City, while three others were admitted to a hospital in Edmond.
Lake Arcadia, located about 21 kilometers north of Oklahoma City, is an artificial reservoir used for flood control. It is also a popular recreational area offering fishing, boating, picnicking, and camping.
It is located in Edmond, near Oklahoma City, and has a population of around 100,000 people.
Forty years ago, Edmond was the site of one of the deadliest workplace shootings in U.S. history, the Associated Press notes.
On August 20, 1986, postal worker Patrick Sherrill shot 20 of his colleagues, killing 14 of them, before taking his own life.
