To recap, U.S. President Donald Trump yesterday threatened that “all civilization will die.” The outcome of the drama, however, was a two-week ceasefire, the end of bombings, and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
Today, he suggested that a U.S.-Iran toll system for ships passing through the strait could be introduced, according to reports.
“We are thinking of doing it as a joint venture. It’s a way to secure it — also to protect it from many other people,” Trump told ABC News. “It’s a wonderful thing.”
“The United States will help with increasing traffic in the Strait of Hormuz. There will be many positive actions! A lot of money will be made. Iran can begin the reconstruction process,” Trump wrote on Truth Social on Wednesday morning. “We’ll load up with all kinds of supplies and just ‘hang around’ to make sure everything goes smoothly. I’m confident it will.”
U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth claims that the key waterway is open, while a senior Iranian official involved in talks with the U.S. told Reuters that Iran could reopen the Strait of Hormuz in a limited and controlled manner tomorrow or Friday, ahead of the meeting between American and Iranian officials in Pakistan, implying that it is not yet fully open.
