Major General Abdolrahim Mousavi, Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, stated that the U.S. president should understand that entering a conflict would mean entering "a battle that will teach them a lesson."
This warning comes after Trump said on Friday that a change of regime in Iran "would be the best thing that could happen," while tensions escalate with the deployment of a second U.S. aircraft carrier to the Middle East.
The U.S. president announced that the USS Gerald R. Ford, described as the largest aircraft carrier in the world, would soon head to the region as a safeguard in case ongoing negotiations between Washington and Tehran fail.
"If we don’t reach an agreement, we will need it," Trump said.
It is worth noting that the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln and a fleet of destroyers are already stationed in the Persian Gulf region, having been sent there last month due to rising tensions between the two countries.
In response to these moves, General Mousavi described Trump’s remarks as "unworthy of a president" and "thoughtless".
He added that if Trump intends to wage war, he should not speak of "negotiations", alluding to the ongoing nuclear diplomacy that resumed earlier this month.
