Rutte stated that NATO countries are now producing more ammunition than in previous decades, according to the Alliance’s website.

“Until recently, Russia produced more ammunition than all NATO member countries combined. But that is no longer the case. Across the Alliance, we are currently opening dozens of new production lines and expanding existing ones,” Rutte emphasized.

According to him, similar progress must be made in other areas—from high-quality air defense systems to inexpensive interceptor drones.

Rutte highlighted that creativity is one of the driving forces behind weapons development.

“We must outsmart our adversaries, using all our power to remain secure in the future,” Rutte stated.

He stressed the importance of an open dialogue between NATO and industry.

“Russia’s unprovoked war against Ukraine is the clearest example of the threat. But the danger posed by Russia will not end when this war concludes. In the foreseeable future, Russia will remain a destabilizing force in Europe and the world. And Russia is not alone in its efforts to undermine global rules,” Rutte said, noting that NATO must be prepared for a prolonged confrontation.

The 2025 NATO Industry Forum gathers 900 participants, covers 300 events, and Rutte described it as one of the largest events of its kind.
