Decision made: International forces to enter the territory

The United States seeks basic stabilization in the Gaza Strip, and planning is underway for the deployment of international forces to the Palestinian enclave, a senior U.S. official said anonymously, Reuters reported.

“What we aim to achieve is only basic stabilization. International stabilization forces are beginning to take shape,” an unnamed senior U.S. advisor said on Wednesday.

Among the countries the U.S. is discussing contributions with for the formation of international forces in the Gaza Strip are Indonesia, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Qatar, and Azerbaijan, a second senior U.S. official, who also requested anonymity, told Reuters.

One advisor noted that residents of Gaza will not be forced to leave the enclave.
