In an interview with the Polish newspaper Gazeta Wyborcza, Andrius Kubilius said that such information must be taken extremely seriously.

“I trust the intelligence services. And the German intelligence agencies claim they have evidence that the Kremlin is discussing an attack on NATO. If they are discussing it, does that mean they are planning it? We don’t know. But such signals must be taken seriously. It is possible that they are indeed preparing for war. And we must prepare ourselves and learn not only from the experiences of Ukrainians but also from those of the Russians,” Kubilius stated.

He emphasized that Russian forces are paying a terrible price on the battlefield, but that does not mean the Kremlin is dissatisfied with the results.

“Putin was supposed to enter Kyiv three days after the start of the war. But as the conflict continued, the nature of warfare changed. We must not forget that the Russians have managed to adapt to this technological transformation. Despite enormous losses, Russia remains largely capable of producing weapons, ammunition, and military equipment,” he said.

His remarks come at a time when Europe is increasingly debating the need to strengthen its defense capabilities and reduce dependence on external partners. The Commissioner for Defense warns that the Union is facing a real threat and must strategically invest in its defense industry, as well as prepare for a scenario in which Russia could move against NATO member states.

While Kubilius and Western intelligence services warn of possible Kremlin plans, Russian President Vladimir Putin has recently dismissed such claims in his public appearances, calling them “nonsense.”
