End of story; Putin has decided!
Three sources close to the Russian president interviewed by Reuters say that Vladimir Putin ignored the ultimatum given to him by US President Donald Trump.
Namely, these sources claim that Putin plans to continue the war until the West accepts Russia's fundamental demands.
As the agency further states, this could be "the end of the story of the big deal between the two presidents" that will end the war in Ukraine.
No one remembers Trump's pre-election announcements that "everything will be solved in 24 hours", it is stated.
We have reached a point where…
The leading world media write in their analyzes that the relationship between the two leaders has obviously reached a point where some kind of result must be delivered, but no one believes that the ultimate goal, a peace agreement, will be reached.
The Guardian points out that Trump approached Putin "like a real estate broker" who offers someone else's territory for something completely unspecified, without going into the reasons why the war happened in the first place and without considering how long such a peace would last.
Time writes that Trump has not listened to the American intelligence community from the beginning and thinks he can convince Putin to completely change his policy.
Then there is the Washington Post, which states that Trump's strategy of "escalation to de-escalation" is applicable to some countries and customs, but not to the man who launched the invasion and who is not in any way threatened in his own country.
Why? This is why
Therefore, the American media conclude, referring to numerous opinions of analysts, that Trump and Putin share a similar political instinct and their rule is characterized by populism, disdain for institutions and a tendency to an authoritarian style.
Their cooperation, even in Trump's first term, when there were no major disagreements, was never an alliance, but mutual exploitation.
That relationship can end in three ways, they say, in Putin's favor, in a complete reversal, or in an invisible settlement that weakens the foundations of the Western order.
Russian political scientist Alexandra Filippenko, who has been living and working in Lithuania since the beginning of the invasion of Ukraine, tells Deutsche Welle that she does not expect anything drastic after the 50-day deadline.
Moreover, she believes that the deadline will pass, and the two leaders will return to the old story - silent settlements and pragmatic cynicism. And the war and destruction of Ukraine will continue.
