The highest level of alarm raised PHOTO/VIDEO
Indonesia has raised the highest alert level for the Lewotobi Laki-laki volcano after it erupted eight times over the weekend, the country's Volcanology Agency said today.

Agency director Muhammad Wafid said Lewotobi Laki-laki, located on the island of Flores in eastern Indonesia, was spewing volcanic ash between 3 kilometers and 5.5 kilometers high late Sunday.
"Our analysis showed that the activity of the volcano is still high, so we raised the alert to the highest level," he said.
Photos released by the agency show clouds of thick gray ash billowing from the crater. Wafid added that a low to high intensity rumble was heard from the nearest monitoring site during the eruption.
The volcano erupted again today, spewing ash clouds 1.2 kilometers high. The agency announced that a radius of six kilometers from the crater must be cleaned and warned residents of the risk of cold lava pouring out of the crater after heavy rains.
Local government official Heronimus Lamavuran said that so far there have been no evacuations of residents or flight cancellations due to the eruptions. In March, the eruption of the Lewotobi Laki-laki volcano forced some airlines to cancel and delay flights to Bali.
Previously, at least nine people died and thousands were evacuated when the volcano erupted in November last year. Indonesia is located on the "Pacific Ring of Fire", an area of high seismic activity on multiple tectonic plates.
