The FBI is involved?

This was stated by Joseph Kent, Chief of Staff to Director of National Intelligence (DNI) Tulsi Gabbard, during a Senate hearing regarding his nomination to be Director of the National Counterterrorism Center.

"We are currently investigating," Kent said, without specifying which of the 18 US intelligence agencies was leading the investigation, Reuters reported.

Gabbard, who was recently named head of the DNI, also oversees the intelligence functions of the FBI.

Although an independent Justice Department watchdog report released in December dismissed far-right conspiracy theories about the FBI's covert involvement in the attack, it confirmed that 26 FBI informants were in Washington that day.

However, the report concluded that none of them had permission to enter the Capitol building or participate in the violence.

Kent's statements followed a question from Democratic Senator Mark Kelly, who recalled that supporters of Donald Trump tried to prevent Congress from confirming the election victory of then-President Joe Biden in 2020, which Trump falsely declared as election theft.

Kent, a former member of the Green Berets and the CIA, known for his loyalty to Trump, previously made claims on social media that the FBI and other agencies were involved in planning the attack, calling the event an "intelligence operation."

During the hearing, Kent suggested that the FBI's Washington office "probably" played a role, but added that it was "subject to investigation."
