The “Eagles” will face Slovenia in the round of 16, with the winner of the match in Turin securing a place among Europe’s top eight national teams.
The match is scheduled for 9:00 p.m., with Serbia entering the knockout stage after finishing fourth in Group C.
Gregor Krecu’s side recorded victories over the Netherlands and Denmark during the group stage, while suffering defeats to Finland and Belgium.
The matches against the Netherlands and Denmark were particularly exciting, with Serbia winning both after five sets.
Against Belgium, however, Serbia failed to respond and ended the group stage with a 3-0 defeat.
A very strong Slovenian side awaits on the other side of the net.
At the most recent European Championship, Slovenia won the bronze medal by defeating France 3-2, while they claimed silver in 2021, 2019 and 2015.
Meanwhile, Serbia’s volleyball team has suffered seven consecutive defeats in competitive matches against Slovenia.
Slovenia finished the group stage with three wins and two losses. They defeated Sweden, Slovakia and the Czech Republic, while losing to Greece and Italy.
Their match against hosts Italy was particularly impressive.
Slovenia managed to fight their way back into the match, winning the third and fourth sets to force a decisive tie-break, but Italy ultimately prevailed 3-2.
Serbia will have to find a way to deal with Slovenia’s serve and blocking, while also maintaining concentration in the closing stages of each set.
Serve reception will be one of the key elements of the game, while the attack will have to be at a high level to put pressure on the Slovenian defense.
On the other side, Slovenia has several highly talented and experienced players in its ranks, led by Rok Možič and Tine Urnaut.
Their ability to take responsibility in crucial moments could be one of the factors that decides this match.
There is no room for error in the knockout stage. One match decides everything, and only the winner will continue the journey toward a medal.
