“I am very satisfied and happy, first of all because of my meetings and the Order of Friendship that I received from President Xi, but we have also achieved many important agreements and arrangements for the benefit of both the Chinese and Serbian people,” Aleksandar Vučić said in Shanghai, where on the fifth day of his official visit to China he toured the Museum dedicated to the First National Congress of the Communist Party of China.
He noted that so far he has held more than 12 meetings with various companies and that he will have five more, emphasizing that these are excellent results and that cooperation between the two countries will be strengthened and improved.
“That is why I came here — to demonstrate the firm friendship between our two countries. I am impressed by Shanghai and, if I may say so, overwhelmed with emotion seeing how much the city has changed since 1990, especially in the last 15 years and after the 18th Congress of the Communist Party of China. I congratulate everyone living in Shanghai because today this is one of the most beautiful places in the world,” Vučić said, inviting people from Serbia to use the Belgrade–Shanghai air route and visit the city.
He stressed that in China one can clearly see hard work, discipline, diligence, and dedication, adding that President Xi Jinping — who previously spoke about how difficult his path to becoming the leader of China and the Communist Party of China had been — is a man of the people, absolutely modest and devoted to his nation.
“When you live through hardship, you leave arrogance behind; it disappears completely. It is entirely different. Today in Serbia we live incomparably better than they did until recently and better than we ever lived in our history. And that is why, unfortunately, arrogance is growing in each of us,” Vučić said.
He added that the Chinese are “an extraordinary nation” progressing at incredible speed, but one in which responsibilities, duties, and results are clearly understood.
Vučić said that he had previously visited the Museum of the Communist Party of China in Beijing, but that he also wanted to see the place where the Communist Party of China was born — in Shanghai. He added that he wanted to learn more about the party, its history, and the leaders who achieved the best results for the Chinese people despite extremely difficult circumstances.
“If you analyze everything from the First Opium War, the Second Opium War, then the First World War, the Second World War, and everything else the Chinese people went through, there are only a few nations in the world that can say they had a similar experience. And here I am, trying to learn everything I can not only about the history of the Communist Party of China, but also about Chinese history, and to learn lessons from the past, because the future cannot be predicted. You cannot understand someone’s future if you do not understand and thoroughly examine their past,” Vučić said.
