Ice wave sweeps across Europe; France counts dead due to icy conditions; Serbia keeps functioning
An ice wave has hit Europe, causing severe consequences in some countries. While France reports fatalities on snow‑covered roads, Serbia is coping much more steadily, media outlets report.
According to media reports, heavy snowfall and icy conditions have turned roads across France into virtual “ice rinks”, with tragic consequences. According to the French Ministry of Transport, at least five people have died in traffic accidents caused by ice and snow, while three more fatalities occurred just this morning in two separate accidents linked to icy conditions. Traffic remains seriously disrupted, and authorities warn that problems are expected to continue throughout the day.
A similar situation is seen in other parts of Europe. In Berlin, due to the snow-ice wave and infrastructure damage, around 25,000 people have been without electricity for the fourth consecutive day, while crews continue efforts to restore power.
The portal “Nova S” reported that snow and ice have paralyzed traffic in France, leading to five deaths on the roads. This happened in France, a European Union member state, often cited by the same media as an example of how a “system should function.” Not in Serbia. Not under Vučić’s government. But in one of the most developed countries in the West.
Unlike the European countries experiencing serious traffic and energy system collapses, media reports indicate that Serbia has shown itself to be far more resilient under the same weather conditions: major roads remain passable, and electricity and heating supplies continue to function steadily.
