Mirković was arrested on Sunday on suspicion of allegedly taking part in attacks on KFOR personnel and the so-called Kosovo Police in May 2023.

The court’s decision states that detention in this criminal case is an “appropriate measure,” as there is a risk that, if released, the defendant could flee in order to hide and evade criminal responsibility.

As previously stated by the police and prosecution, I.M. is suspected of attacking an official, participating in a crowd committing a criminal offense and hooliganism, organizing for the purpose of so-called unconstitutional activity, and endangering persons under international protection.

Protests in northern Kosovo and Metohija in May 2023 erupted after the so-called Kosovo Police forcibly installed Albanian mayors in municipal buildings following elections that were boycotted by Serbs.

KFOR personnel were deployed around the municipal buildings in Leposavić, Zubin Potok and Zvečan on May 29, and after talks between representatives of the Serbs and KFOR officers failed to result in the withdrawal of Pristina’s special police units from the municipal buildings, clashes broke out between local residents and KFOR personnel.

Pristina authorities have so far arrested several Serbs on suspicion of participating in those clashes.
