Children injured as illegal swing ride collapses

A swing ride collapsed late on Tuesday in a village in eastern Serbia, lightly injuring several children.

The owner has been placed under arrest after it was found that he had no permit to operate the ride.

The 4-meter tall structure collapse in the yard of an elementary school in the village of Selakovac, near the town of Požarevac.

The children were gathered there for a football tournament.

Požarevac Hospital Director Srećko Božić told B92 on Wednesday that three girls and two boys suffered light injuries to their heads and limbs, and were not hospitalized.

Meanwhile the police in Požarevac detained the owner of the swing ride, Miroslav N., on suspicion that he caused general danger.

A similar accident happened in March in Soko Banja, when nine children were injured, one seriously.
