Our planet is at the most distant location in its orbit around the Sun when the warmest season starts for its northern part; our star will reach its highest point today at noon on its apparent path in the sky.

Belgrade's Astronomical Society Ruđer Bošković Secretary Milan Jeličić explained that the Sun rose at 04.52 CET this morning in Belgrade, while it will set at 20:28.

The summer will last until September 22, he noted.

As the summer starts here, residents of the southern hemisphere are entering the winter season.

In Serbia and much of the region, hot weather experienced during the previous week will continue today.

On Thursday, the temperature reached 38 degrees centigrade in some places, while 36 degrees have been forecast for Belgrade on Friday.

Doctors are advising staying out of the sun during the hottest part of the day, dressing and eating light, and taking plenty of fluids.
