Employment rate in Serbia 37.4 percent

Employment rate in Serbia is 37.4 percent and is higher among men (44.9 percent) than among women (30.5 percent) according to the results of the 2011 census.

Employment is highest in the Belgrade region - 41.6 percent, and lowest in southern and eastern Serbia - 34 percent.

The unemployment rate is 22.4 percent. By gender, unemployment is 21.6 percent among men and 23.6 percent among women. The lowest unemployment rate was recorded in the Belgrade region (17.9 percent) and the highest in southern and eastern Serbia (27.3 percent).

The inactivity rate among people aged 15 and older is 51.8 percent. It is lower among men (42.8 percent) than among women (60.1 percent).

The lowest inactivity rate was recorded in the Belgrade region (49.4 percent), followed by Šumadija and western Serbia (51.9 percent) and Vojvodina (52.5 percent), while southern and eastern Serbia have the highest inactivity rate of 53.3 percent.

Data on the economic characteristics of the population is based on responses about activity in the week preceding the census (September 24 to 30, 2011), which is in line with the concept of so-called current activity.
