Lots of people here need a Reality Check. Hilarious reading enraged extremists' comments filled with the typical checklist: 1) mention of nazis, 2) mention the evil Vatican/Germany conspiracy, 3)inflated refugee/victim numbers, 4) ignoring historical facts, 5) and most importantly, My-Side-Did-No-Wrong.

No, you need that reality check. Really, you do.

Yes Peggy there are Nazi symbols everywhere and all sorts of misguided youth that follow it.
You asked " Who are these people"?

I will tell you.

In Germany, Croatia America, Australia, Canada and even in Serbia there are Nazis and their supporters.
You can research Milan Nedic and the Nazi movement in Serbia in WW2 or you might like something more recent like Dragan Petrovic from Serbia who is now on trial in Prague with a Czech Nazi movement.

Just google "Blood and Honour Serbia" and you will find lots of You Tube videos and photos of young Serbian Neo Nazis giving the Nazi salute while holding Serbian and Nazi flags.

Do these people represent all of Serbia?

From looking at the photos on their website and listening to songs they are singing you have to conclude that there are lots of nazis in Serbia.

Should we label Serbia a Nazi State?

This is another Reality Check for you.

Stop living in the past. The battle of Kosovo is over, Ustasa Croatia 1941-1945 is long gone as is the RSK 1991-1995 and some great Serbian land where all the Serbs join hands and dance a big kolo exists only in your delusions.

Most posters seem ignorant of the domestic political nature of the law that underpins the subjec matter of the article - it was intended by leftist parties to stop up to a couple hundred thousand BiH Croats from voting in domestic elections, who tend to vote Christian democrat parties. The impact on a few thousand Serbs that have residency cards but reside outside the country is a moot point.

In reply to a few of the emotional conspiracy theorists I offer a dose of reality and facts.

Sure in Croatia today there are many people who despise Serbs, after all you have to admit that in 1991 there were many Croats who were killed and forced from their homes in Knin, Glina, Vukovar etc..and lived in refugee camps throughout Croatia until August 1995 when they returned to their burned down homes then the Serbs from those areas became refugees. The face is one group of refugees returned and another was created. The war is now over and Croatia won. Live in reality.

@ Daniel 10:28
There are vast numbers Serb, Bosnian muslim and Croat refugees all over the world who will probably never return to Croatia or Bosnia, so your numbers of 1.3 million wanting to return is a fantasy. I have spoken with many Serbs who are now in the US, Canada, and other European countries with jobs and a normal life who have no intension of returning to Croatia or Bosnia mainly due to the high unemployment and low standard of living. There are also many Croats abroad who have no intension of returning to their old homes in Banja Luka or Sarajevo it is now all about economics or maybe they were ethnically cleansed from Banja Luka and are afraid to return.

Reality Check

pre 13 godina

Another big dose of reality.

The war is over and Croatia won.

No amount of delusional wishful thinking of the RSK army retaking the land will occur.
Croatia is now part of NATO so you would have to go to war against all of the NATO countries. That will never happen and it is time to accept that fact and move on with your lives.

You must now start looking at what is best for the Serbian refugees living in Banja Luka.

If you are a 20 year unemployed Serb sitting in a cafe drinking coffee, smoking and telling yourself delusional stories of the nazi Croats waiting for you to cross the boarder so they can kill you on orders from the Vatican or Germany you will probably still be unemployed in 5 years sitting in that same Banja Luka cafe.

If that same 20 year returned to Croatia and got his Croatian documents and passport he will probably still be unemployed drinking coffee and smoking in a Knin cafe. The Vatican-German-Albanian-Muslim-Croat killers would not have harmed him. As a matter of fact nobody in Croatia would care about him or do anything to help him or harm him.

With over 22% unemployment in Croatia they already have enough problems taking care of themselves and figuring out how to put food on their tables. However, in 2 years that same unemployed Serb or Croat sitting in that Knin cafe will be able to sit on a bus and go to Germany, France, Greece, Denmark or another European country and legally search for work. That is the reality of the situation.

From Danijel Ivkovic "Njegos, stop bang on about how Croatia/Croatians took serbian land and homes. These (so called) Serbs which lived in Croatia prior to the war, did own homes, land etc. but they were also born in Croatia, making them Croatians."

(Danijel Ivkovic, 19 February 2013 07:27)

So exactly what is your point here? Because they were born there, does that now give the current gov't. the right to take their land? And these 'so-called' Serbs as you call them, were born in the country of Yugoslavia, not the country of Croatia, but rather the province of Croatia. This would make them Croatian Serbs just as a Serb born and living in Bosnia is a Bosnian Serb, Montinegrin Serb, etc. Get it?

Daniel

pre 13 godina

It has been 18 years since these people left their homes in Croatia. Many Serbians have returned to their homes and started their lives again within Croatia. We see many Serbian political and social organizations in Croatia, the number or returnees was so high in some areas that the Croatian government is now adding official signs in Cyrillic. If you have not returned by now you and your family probably have no intention of returning.

It is time to get on with your lives people, you only live once and if you think you are better off living as refugees in Banja Luka rather than as a minority in a soon to be European Union country you are fooling yourselves.

Of course we are better off living in Banja Luka among our people then among murderours fasist ustasa that only wait for the next opportunity to kill and ethnically cleanse us like you did in ww2 and during the last war. And stop lying the number of serbs returning is very very small and most of them returning are older people that are 60yrs older and more. The only reason why the cyrillic is in use in 1 place, Vukovar is the large serb population that never even left Vukovar during the war.

Official numbers of serb refugees returning is about 6%of the expelled , just do the math before the war there were 1.3 million serbs in croatia and now the number is maybe 300 000.

Yes Mark, that is when you leave voluntarily. These people were ethnically cleansed. Taking away their IDs and their possibilities of reclaiming what was taken from them is Croatia's final move in genocide because ethnically cleansing people and erasing any trace of them falls under the definition of genocide. Oh and Mark, your precious USA was very instrumental in that.

With a Croatian passport you will in a few years be able to seek work in other EU countries if you desire. Other Serbians have taken that step and will probably be better off in the long run than those who made their life decisions with their emotions rather than with their brains.

Nobody from Croatia is going to come and bring you money and beg you to return to your old homes. If you don't do it yourself, you will soon have nobody to blame except yourselves. Stop looking at the past and look to the future. Ask the Chinese or the African refugees who are trying to claim political asylum in Croatia. They are smart enough to see what benefits they will have in a few short years if they succeed.

A person acquires the citizenship of the state where he/she is born. Proof of that citizenship may be in the form of old residency cards etc. If one refuses to return the old card, it should not result in removal of that citizenship irrespective of the nationality of that person. Likewise it should not be used to defeat the rights of the individual to reclaim what has been taken away from them. If this move by the Croatian government results in any of these things, surely those affected should challlenge it in the courts initially domestically and then internationally.

Interestering how a self-proclaimed western-leaning country can pass laws to legally ursup and 'steal' Serbian-owned property and then be accepted into the EU.

For all the lip service that Croatia has given the west over the past several years about wanting to repatriate Serb refugees, it is now clear that the Croat government's objective is to make it very difficult, if not impossible, for Serbs to return to their homes.

Maybe the Croat gov't. is planning on giving the Croats from B-H Serb homes. Croats in B-H are being squeezed out of the Federation as their former Muslim allies have no use for them now. The Croat population of B-H has been cut in half since 1995. Too bad. Maybe they can go to Croatia as refugees and let the already financially-strapped gov't. there pay for them. That's the price you pay for an ethnically-pure state. Enjoy!

In my state you have 90 days after you move to change your address on your official documents or they become invalid such as your drivers license or voters registration card. This has been the law in the United States for years, what is the big problem with that?

Enjoy!

You can now swallow your pride and return to Croatia or you can shut up and live out the rest of your life in poverty.

Lenard said, "At the behest of Greater warmongering expansionist Serbia pogroms as their No 1 dupes. Isn't brigand Serbia going to save you when they so royally duped used you so well strange indeed."

English is clearly not his first language. Arrogance and self-awareness seldom go hand in hand.

Hey Mark - Here is the problem with your analogy: these people were forced from their homes; ethnically cleansed. Understand? I'm sure the people you refer to who move in your state aren't / weren't ethnically cleansed, were they? On the contrary, they moved voluntarily. Your analogy is way off. Take a little more time to think about what you write before responding next time.

Swallow your pride??? Return to Croatia and live in luxury as opposed to live in misery in RS? Are you for real? Since when does an average Joe live well in Croatia? What do you think joining EU is going to do for you?
What do you mean by swallow your pride? Serbs are not too proud to go back but maybe they have horrible memories of "Independent Croatia which used the same old Nazi symbols and still do during Thomson concerts".
Maybe they don't have houses to come back to.
So you are the one who needs a reality check.

Absolutely true. The difference is, in US they don’t confiscate your house, property like in ustasha run Croatia.
That is the big problem. Get it now!!!!

"Association of Serb Refugees from Krajina and Croatia" seems a bit superfluous, considering that Krajina is a part of Croatia.

Reality Check

In reply to a few of the emotional conspiracy theorists I offer a dose of reality and facts.

@Peggy
Stop living in the past. The battle of Kosovo is over, Ustasa Croatia 1941-1945 is long gone as is the RSK 1991-1995 and some great Serbian land where all the Serbs join hands and dance a big kolo exists only in your delusions.

Ustasha long gone? Really?
What happens during Thomson's concenrts then? How many Nazi salutes and how many Nazi songs from your past?
Was it my imagination or did I really see those Croatians giving Nazi salute while attending Australian Open?

Who are these people then?
How many Nazi symbols and slogans came out again during the 90s?
No, you need that reality check. Really, you do.

(Danijel Ivkovic, 19 February 2013 07:27)

They were born in Yugoslavia not in Croatia and just because someone lives in Croatia doesnt make him a croat, ever heard about national minorities? And there is nothing as "so called" serbs, only serbs and nonserbs for your info even though you and your fellow nazi ustasa tried to expell serbs or turn them into croats during ww2. We serbs are the ones that know best what kind of butchers you are.

Get it?

Mark

Most posters seem ignorant of the domestic political nature of the law that underpins the subjec matter of the article - it was intended by leftist parties to stop up to a couple hundred thousand BiH Croats from voting in domestic elections, who tend to vote Christian democrat parties. The impact on a few thousand Serbs that have residency cards but reside outside the country is a moot point.

Get off your computers please.
