"No independence — all agreements to be respected"

It is out of the question for Serbia to recognize Kosovo and Metohija as independent, Serbian President Tomislav Nikolić said in New York on Tuesday.

Here is a test to for you, why doesn’t NATO invade Syria?
(sj, 27 September 2012 04:54)

Because it is nice for US to have the Syrian blood pay for Russia looking bad. Why should US stop that ?! Are you that naive to think that US cares for Syria or Syrian people :)

When was the last time "Kosovar" president stepped into Russian parlaiment, Chinese or Indian parliament?
(Peggy, 26 September 2012 23:05)

Agim Ceku met with Putin at the Kremlin. I remember reading it here. You're trying to hard Peggy. Leave your emotions aside and see it as someone who has no beef in any of this. It will become clear that Kosova and Serbia can't function together, unless deadly force is used. Kosova in Serbia is a recipe for a disastrous Serbia. However if the bombs in Belgrade couldn't convey that message to you nothing will. That is what Kosova brings to Serbia bombs and civil unrest. That social contract that keeps people together had been burned and torched.

Ian, I was being real.
I said that China WILL stand up to America and you didn't seem to get that.
I was saying they will stand up to America even though America supports Japan. How did you not get that?
Why are you linking the Faulkland war with what is going on now?

Congratulations, Tomislav. Nikolic! If you would have asked me for wording on your speech, I couldn't have given you better words to say.. Your speech today at the U.N., in front of the the most powerful democratic nations on earth, the majority of whom officially recognized kosovas independence within weeks of its declaration, was the best thing that could have come out of your mouth, the president of Serbia! You my friend, have just placed Serbia's head in a guillotine of which there is no escape! I won't be surprised that within 2-6 weeks, we will witness a new policy of extreme isolation & pressure on Serbia! While at the same time, expediting kosova's E.U. & NATO aspirations! I also believe, it is very likely that the E.U. Will now in fact, make it crystal clear that Serbia will be required to officially recognize Kosova as a independent country, before it can become a E.U. member! The U.S.A along with the E.U. have heard Serbia loud & clear today & seen the ever present face of a still radical-Serbia firsthand, when the president of Serbia took the podium In a speech that clearly showed, Serbia continues to be in clear defiance of the democratic transitions trying to taking hold in the Balkans & southeast Europe! Your speech Mr. Nikolic, clearly proves that Serbia is without, S. milosevich, but still exercises his policy's! Serbia clearly show's it cannot be a trusted partner in promoting peace, democracy & stability in this part of the world!

This "small nation" ganged up and attacked smaller nations itself. So you got what you asked for. Are you trying to tell us how brave the serbs are? Are you talking about the same serbs that as soon as they heard of a NATO ground attack they soiled their pants and ran away faster than Speedy Gonzales?

That’s the problem, you don’t see. As I said South East Asia is US free, but the freedom-loving western press don’t mention that fact. The pacific region is being cleansed of the US, but the press don’t talk about it. The Indian Ocean region is being cleansed of the US, but….. and so on and so forth.

The fact that the Russians have won the energy wars over the US. That the Russians will now supply 65% to 70% of all of the EU’s energy requirements and they will not have any influence over Brussels.

The fact the EU had to ask the Chinese and Russians to buy their Euro bonds. That Merkel asked the Chinese to directly inject billions into the EU economy. The fact the US will have a 17 trillion deficit by December 2012; that the Us economy is in a dire situation where its flat lined.

Yes it all my imagination.

I’ve always found that people who have no power to do something tend to boast the most and that is Tony Blair, a useless, religious, hypocritical windbag. He sent in UK ill equiped and badly prepared troops to Iraq and he was talking about invading Serbia.

Here is a test to for you, why doesn’t NATO invade Syria?

18 or 13 is still a lot of countries against one small country.
We don't know if China is going to stand up to America. Trouble is brewing with Japan now who is being supported by the US. Let's see how this gets sorted out first before you say that China is not willing to stand up to America.
Actually, China already has in the case of Serbia. For the first time they sent a representative to argue Serbia's case at ICJ. This is not something China is known for doing. What would you call that?
(Peggy, 26 September 2012 23:02)

Get real!

The US eventually slightly backed the UK verbally over the Falkland Islands after Thatcher belittled and embarrassed the US Foreign Secretary and US ambassador at a black tie do at Number 10.

That was over Argentina aka a country the US regarded as unimportant. You really think the US will back Japan over some uninhabited islands no-one has ever heard over until five minutes ago when it comes to a country like China???

China and the US really on each other too much to go to war (especially now the economic crisis has hit China), besides them two both maintain the balance of power in the word; neither want to upset that. There will be no war between the two, at least not in our life times. And a war between the two would end all our lives aka Nuclear War.

Yes China slightly supported Serbia at the ICJ, but it says a lot when China ordered the Chinese Judge at the ICJ to boycott the entire case. So much for Chinese 'support'.

Also as to the bombing of Yugoslavia, only 15 countries were involved and only 13 militarily. Hardly "18 countries attacking one small nation" as you claimed

This must be eating Kosovo's Albanians alive. You are being publicly scolded in front of the whole world and there is nothing these powerful countries whom support you can do. They can't even retaliate as there are other powerful countries on Serbia's side. Of course Nikolic shouldn't shake Thaci's soiled hands. That thing deserves to be in prison with other low lives like himself. I am enjoying every moment of these meetings. What's funnier is to see how the Albanian supporters here try to twist every word any Serb says. The best that will do is make you feel good for a couple of moments until you realize just how miserable your lives actually are and that won't change soon.

Yeah you just keep on think that if it makes you feel warm and fuzzy inside. As I said before the last time the US was in Australia with its military was in WW2. I don’t see the US standing up to the Chinese in the South Asia region at all.
I recall the 78 days alright – 18 countries attacking one small nation. Wow what a feat; I also saw the stealth aircraft shot down too and in the end the Serbs did not capitulate as NATO never took over the rest of Serbia. When was the last time that your Albanians did something like that, I mean doing something that does not involve hanging onto mother’s dress and achieving something? Eh? Like your allies the Croats always hanging on someone’s coat tails.

However NATO still has Serbs at the border looking into Kosovo! By the way I saw where China launched their first aircraft carrier, this week. A third hand leftover Russian vessel from the cold war, refurbished and without any aircraft capable of landing on it and probably years before so. And I am sure you will tell us now there is not a western sea vessel on that side of the world.
Just remember it only took 78 days without a single soldier on the ground.

Sounds like Nikolic does not mince words. Kosovars should understand, life will be better for them if they work to stay in Serbia. Too bad the Albos are willing to now let Wesley Clark and Albright take their "finders fee"in raping the natural resources and owning the telecomunications company for their work in helping establish their narco- terrorist interim government.

I hope you read Nikolic's lips... "No UN", your going to be there only as guests sitting in the corner pretending to be a state for a while.
(Radovan, 25 September 2012 23:26)
Now the big question--Kosovo is operating independently of Serbia with diplomatic relations with every major country in the west, passports are accepted almost anywhere a person from Kosovo can travel, and you are saying but you will never get a UN seat--Will Kosovo get that UN seat as a Serbian territory? NO, so what is there to entice the people of Kosovo to reverse course other than to make Serbs happy?
Status-quo is not a desirable state, but it is better than any option you offer. It delays Serbia's membership in the EU, not Kosovo's as you are not giving them an option.
However, should the EU feel that it is forever blocked, I am sure you will see increased pressure on the 5 to recognize and bring Kosovo in without Serbia.
In any event Kosovo will internationally be protected from any forced occupation by Serbia.

1) Most of you say that EU is done. An organisation that is about to collapse.
The EU has had to go cap in hand to the Chinese and Russians to try and persuade them to buy their Euro bonds. The did buy them but on their terms.
About two weeks ago Angela Merkel went to Beijing to ask the Chinese to directly inject cash into the EU economy as even the Germans are now in recession. The EU has more countries on the waiting list for bail outs than ones earning an income. Even Slovenia has had to get an injection of money.

2) USA is evil and is about to go bankrupt (ie. collapse as EU)

It debit will be 17 trillion by December 2012. Every state in the Union is broke.
Militarily the US is contracting; it has lost Asia. It has to close Diego Garcia, it has reduced its troop numbers in South Korea from 50 000 since the 1950s to less than 20 000 today.
In 2005 the wealthy in the US took about 65% of all the wealth earned in that country, by 2010 that same 1% of the population took home 93%.

3) Serbia will never recognise Kosovo

It now year 13 and still no recognition

4) Serbia does not want to join EU because (see #1, see #3)

With the recent elections that policy has changed and Serbia does not want to nor will ever join the EU.
5) Serbia does not want to join NATO because (see #2, #3) + NATO is evil and they have bombed serbia

NATO is finished as a battle group.

There's an advantage to dealing with American investors, especially in a country worried about high-level corruption: American companies are liable under American law for corruption they may be involved in abroad under the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act. Even if the local courts are not interested in prosecuting them for bribery or the like, they can be charged in an American court, by a competitor for example who thought he was faced with unfair competition, or a suspicious NGO. There's a case in Serbia where one of the big pharmaceutical companies paid expenses for some doctors to attend medical conferences, perhaps in the hope that they would recommend the company's medications for government purchase.

Nenad

Nikolic said all the things he could be expected to say. I doubt many at that UNGA would pay his words much heed.

So basically, for any just tuning in, here is a recap of where things stand in the long-running Kosovo drama (and a few resulting questions):

- Serbia has succeeded in stalling full recognition of Kosovo, which means that Albanians miss out on important benefits of full nationhood, and so the road ahead for Albanians is bound to be very difficult.
- Apart from the north, Kosovo continues after 13 years to sit beyond the control of Belgrade. Albanians call this independence and Serbs do not, but which side has more power in the province?
- Serbs delight in the fact that Albanians are stumbling on the road of UDI, while Albanians delight in the fact that they are no longer ruled by Serbs. Who is happier?
- Serbs seem to lack a firm road map for regaining control over those parts of Kosovo that are currently beyond their reach. How and when do they expect to regain sovereignty? What are the real chances of that ever happening?
- Serb politicians have expended enormous amounts of energy on salvaging as much of Kosovo as they can, but at what expense? What is currently being done to address other critical needs of the state?
- How does Albanian hardship in unrecognized Kosovo truly benefit the many Serbs currently struggling through economic recession (arguably worse)?

Amer

pre 11 godina

I hope he listened as well as talked. For example, to what Obama had to say about the responsibility of leaders to control their people when they form mobs to attack foreign embassies, as they are required to do under the Vienna Convention and UN rules. So, when Serbia finally has to recognize Kosovo, at least implicitly, he'd better not plan to take off for the day to visit Romania or someplace.

You can and may say no to recognition but I dont see how you or anyone in Serbia can speak of Kosovo's independence, or is this the usual rakia-talk?

18 or 13 is still a lot of countries against one small country.
We don't know if China is going to stand up to America. Trouble is brewing with Japan now who is being supported by the US. Let's see how this gets sorted out first before you say that China is not willing to stand up to America.
Actually, China already has in the case of Serbia. For the first time they sent a representative to argue Serbia's case at ICJ. This is not something China is known for doing. What would you call that?

Go and ask Wesley Clarke why he didn’t get his parade through the streets of New York.

Ian, I was being real.
I said that China WILL stand up to America and you didn't seem to get that.
I was saying they will stand up to America even though America supports Japan. How did you not get that?
Why are you linking the Faulkland war with what is going on now?

Because it is nice for US to have the Syrian blood pay for Russia looking bad. Why should US stop that ?! Are you that naive to think that US cares for Syria or Syrian people :)
