vuk,i was delighted by your words!indeed you always do serve albanian nationalism:we dreamed of it ,you make it happen: a kosovarpolitician speaking for kosovoat The UN, as a member of the Albanian delegation! This is Albania as we want it to be,and you work hard for it!

The trouble with the concept of Sovereignty is that it acts as a shield for protecting corrupt self-perpetuating 'governments' that are more like mafias than like authorities who rule under law for the benefit of the people.

The UN specifically requires that nations give up an amount of their sovereignty in order to be members. The trouble is that in many cases governments have no way to be held to account. Unless there is a free party system and unless people have a free uncorrupted vote, sovereignty should not necessarily be respected by other nations.

We need a scoring system and a UN court with powers to over-rule presidents when they fail to qualify adequately.

If those who make noise at the UN about the importance of their sovereignty are to be listened to, perhaps that should act as a hint that they deserve to be investigated about their morals and their purposes.

" member states, which can invite a guest, be they a journalist, an artist, somebody accused of war crimes. "

what a clown!! you Serbs are simply unable to elect a political elite which would have the minimum required dignity and elegance.

The "accused of war crimes" is accused ONLY by his enemies. NOT even ONE single INDEPENDENT international body as accused him of ANY war crimes. Therefore he meets top officials of all democratic countries on regular basis as well as top officials of all international organizations: sec gen of UN, top officials of EU, World Bank and so one.

Your Vuk is pathetic while his mediocrity has brought to Kosova the biggest and strongest international legal support: the ICJ explicit rule in favor of Kosova and against Serbia's claims with a result of 10 to 4 judges in favor for Kosova.

dori tirana,

Don't forget roles of Slovenian and Croatian nationalistic movements and actions for the outbreak of the latest Balkan wars. There's a continuing dispute about who fired the first shot but the actual warfare was started by Slovenian territorial units. They fired the first shots against JNA (Yugoslav People's Army), shooting down two JNA helicopters and killing all onboard, the 27th of June 1991.

I was then in Yugoslavia and I remember the frightened atmosphere of "what will happen now?".

You can try to put all blame in Serbian bag -but what for? You think it would explain you all that happened, and why it happened? Serbia certainly had its own big foot between the door but don't be naive and fall in simple tricks of nationalistic story tellings of any side of the conflict.

etc,etc

"Debates are attended only by member states, which can invite a guest, be it a journalist, an artist, somebody accused of war crimes" said Jeremić.
Or leaders of rebellions in response to cruel and violent oppressive regimes, or victims of an ethnic cleansing campaign or leaders of new democratic countries that have been created due to the intervention of the UN, etc,etc

So, he's planning to invite Mladic to discuss the relative importance of state rights and human rights?

isn´t it sweet to see how our dear k-albanian friends are not getting tired of trying to belittle Mr. Jeremić´s role as "purely technical" and him as having no influence and being only a bystander?

I mean, do you Albanians see how ridiculous you are by helplessly trying to downplay him and his position?

oh, as a sidenote isn´t that Mr.Ban Ki Moon right beside him?

as to rubbish one of those copy&paste-warriors has posted: how dare the Albanians to mention massacre and genocide when it is the Albanians who are ( with US-help of course, since alone they couldn´t do anything ) doingt just that in order to achieve their fascist goal of a "greater Albania"?

seems like the Albanians live in a dreamworld...

Bravo for Jeremic! We can't alone put an end to the criminality of NATO's actions, but at least we got the chance to have an open debate about it. This is the issue that bothers a huge number of people all over the world who are currently held hostage by the big business interests which are enforced through the wars waged by their puppet army aka NATO, and allowed to continue due to their ability to paralyse international law through money, vetoes and "blood libel" type propaganda against their victims.
I hope this is a beginning of an end of that travesty.

@Robert1899 I know very well and correct the story for WWII, WWI, Ottoman Empire, Byzantine Empire, Roman Empire and Prehistory. In this case was President of Albania speech for the current story and the wars of 1990s. So you are assuming that Serb revenge in 1990s was for WWII. If I follow your logic it’s time for Croats, Bosnians and Albanians to revenge for crimes done by Serbs in years 1990s.

dori,I assume u must have been taught incorrect history about WWll using albanian history books. Let me correct u, the 3 groups that u mentioned, albanians, croats & bosniak Muslims were involved in The Worst Crimes against humanity known to man. If u don't believe me ask your new Western "friends" in the us, england and france.

So amusing to read these kinds of declarations. Jeremic is obviously NOT aware that the UNGA Pres position is purely technical, not political, as he pretends. Not ready yet for a senior position!

In my region, the Balkans, people of different ethnic groups: Albanians, Bosniaks and Croats have experienced some of the most horrific wars in the name of nationalism misused. Chauvinist minds vindicated their superiority ideology on other peoples legitimate genocides and massacres that followed. Last two decades have shown that it is not an easy task to turn the page in Balkan history book. The causes of these tragedies and genocide may not be able to do this alone. What is needed is the consent of all nations, but first of all and above all, by an affirmative consent of victims seeking justice. We note with concern that in the Balkans, instead of sincere apology for the massacres and genocide caused, we served negative statements and all statements made by the highest levels.
