"Sorry, but the EU is a membership organization, so the rules are set by the organization, not those wishing to be invited to join. The EU has decided that Serbia will never become a full-fledged member until it gets rid of Kosovo. "
(Glenn, 31 May 2012 20:18)

Where and when did the EU decide that?
"Consider that even the membership application specifically excludes Kosovo. If you wanted to get into the EU, even if invited, you would have to revise your application to include Kosovo."

That's true, when Serbia becomes an EU member, it will be without Kosovo. Comparable to Cyprus, which became an EU member without northern Cyprus. Cyprus didn't give up on northern Cyprus, and doesn't recognize the Turkish state created there.

You know, I'm very liberal in regards to this issue. Under Tadic, I saw a great presidency with a stride toward EU establishment and strengthen the Serbian economy. When I see Nikolic, I see someone who has too much baggage to even be considered president. I found it funny when Serbians said, "WHY WOULD YOU PUT A WAR CRIMINAL LIKE HASHIM THAQI FOR PRIME MINISTER?" Well, why would Serbia elect an extreme rightest and ex-Alley of Slobodan Milosevic to be president? I just don't understand it. It's like Serbia wants to take another 100 years back. It's shameful really. I mean, Serbia had a lot going for them under Tadic. I feel like Nikolic is NOT a good choice, and it will prove so later in the year. Plus, about the Kosovo issue, if you ask a regular person from Belgrade about Kosovo, the average response is, "Who gives a crap about those Albanians, where is my job?!" That was a focal point of Tadic = JOBS AND ECONOMY. With Nikolic = Slobodan Pt.2. It doesn't make sense for our Balkan nations at this time.

reading all this, shows everybody that Serbia is a country full of hate. Every single day B92 is full full of these hatefull comments. Very rearly you find balanced, reflective, thoughtful comments from Serbians looking for peace. It is your way, or no way, especially when it comes to Kosovo. Don't you realize that nobody in Kosovo wants you any more, that Kosovo will never be under serbian rule ever again. You would have to kill 1,9 million people if you want that country back under your rule again. Is this what you want? Do you really think the world would let you this? You have no, abosoluty no support from the people who live in Kosovo, except the 100,000 serbs, which are 5% of the population in that country, and even among them a large number does not want war and wants to live in peace. If Serbia wants peace, letting go of this unrealistic claim on Kosovo has to be the first step. Without that, there will be no way Serbia will ever become a member of the EU, without that Serbia will not be able to solve its ecconomic crisis, which in fact is mach bigger than the one the EU faces, something which is also not recognized in Serbia. Without the EU help Serbia would go bankrupt tomorrow, and there would be no Russia coming to its help. Go on dreaming, or face reality, and grow up, and really try to become part of Europe, but that will take a lot of re-thinking and refecting, which I currently do not see in Serbia.

How many other countries had to give up a portion of their land to join the EU? The answer, none! So why should Serbia have to give up its holy territory?

- Because of past actions, Albanians will never peacefully live under Serbian rule, and the EU doesn't want any additional problems.

You talk as if the EU was some kind of exclusive club for the elite, and if your not in it, you've missed out. The fact is that the EU is bankrupt and worthless!! And even if it wasn't, no fool, except for the sellout Tadic, would relinguish an entire province to join some garbage, but then again, he's a bought soul.

- OK, so if it is worthless, don't join. No problem.

I am getting tired of listening to crap eminating from people like you.

- What about "people like me?" You don't know me.

EU membership is not the real issue, it's just a disguise for the Evil Empire's real aspirations.

-What are the "Evil Empire's real aspirations?" Do you think they care in the least about Serbia?

Only fools like you profess that Serbia should abandon its land for some EU garbage. Would you like your country to give up one of its provinces for EU membership? Of course not!

-I didn't say Serbia should abandon its land. I said it will be forced to choose (ultimately between EU membership without Kosovo, or no EU and no Kosovo).

So stop spewing your manure to others!

Serbia in his current state has no place in the EU, it should go and play with the russians, but than with all the consequences. In his first address to MPs after he was sworn in as the country's new president, Nikolić said he would fight for Serbia to become a full-fledged member of the EU that will never renounce its sovereignty and integrity and its Kosovo and Metohija.

Sorry, but the EU is a membership organization, so the rules are set by the organization, not those wishing to be invited to join. The EU has decided that Serbia will never become a full-fledged member until it gets rid of Kosovo.
Consider that even the membership application specifically excludes Kosovo. If you wanted to get into the EU, even if invited, you would have to revise your application to include Kosovo. Also, everything in Kosovo would have to rise to EU standards (B92 posters love to point out just how bad and backwards Kosovo is) and it would be impossible to make forward progress if Albanians there were expected to cooperate with the Serbian government.
In other words, attempting to hang on to Kosovo will definitely cost Serbia entry into the EU, either because the EU will get tired of dealing with the Serbian government, or because the Albanians in Kosovo will sabotage the process.

This man does not have the European spirt which is required to become a member of the EU. Europe doesn't need a country like Serbia which doesn't even know where it belongs; to the East or to the West. Putin's Russia stands for dictatorship, blooshed, and the west stands for democtatic believes like sef determoination and human rights. The way Russia acts in the Syrian nightmare shows very clearly what that country stands for. Well what else can you expect from a dictorship than to support another dictator is his ruthless ways. Europe will also not put up much longer with Serbias unlawful claims on Kosovo. 90% of the people living there do not want Serbia to have any saying in their affairs, but Serbia insits on this unfounded claim that Kosovo is the 'cradle of their culture'. It would be the same as if Germans would say that Eastern Prussia where Germans lived for hundreds of years should become German again. Grow up, and face reality, or give yourself to Russia. The west is getting sick of the way you guys act.

-Are we in 3rd grade? Just because you don't like what I write it doesn't mean that it isn't true
