Methinks the bottom line is this -- Russia has huge reserves of mineral resources -- which the relatively resource poor EU needs. That's why I seem to be reading more these days about a so called strategic partnership between Russia and Germany -- written not by Russian, but Western sources. And there is no lack of demand for these Russian resources outside EU -- just look at the Chinese's demand for their oil for instance.
