I'm really amazed, Probabis, your "solution" will do anything but prevent Serbia from descending deeper into the Balkan pig pen. The idea of forming a federation with Greece, the most unreliable and debt ridden country in Europe, indicates you know nothing about what it takes to be a successful modern and democratic European state. The EU is not meant to be a welfare agency for those countries constantly in need of handouts.

Greece, though a friend to Serbia, is a different country with its own language, culture and general ethos.

Greece is also divided from Serbia by Macedonia which, voluntarily or not, is under Western control and can be used in a crisis to block access between the two allies.

The same principle applied to Romania and Bulgaria being prematurely admitted into the EU, and why Montenegro was cynically given EU candidate status well before it deserved it - to surround Serbia and control its access to both the sea and Russia.

If you doubt such an assessment of that corner of the global Western intent, take it from the proverbial horse’s mouth and read Zbigniew Brzezinski’s ‘The Grand Chessboard’.

However far-fetched it may seem at the moment, the only federation that could work in the Western Balkans is the one that existed before Western interference in 1991 - Yugoslavia, or at least those parts of it - Serbia, Croatia, BiH and Montenegro - that share a common language and ethnicity as well as very similar cultures.

Don’t ever think for a moment that this is impossible.

Headline: "Serbian President Boris Tadić said Saturday the Balkans needed to become a place of cooperation and reconciliation" - I guess he means except for gay citizens whose parade has been cancelled.

This cant be Serbias to decide alone !.

i have studied the balkans for all my life. I am greek (from epiros) and half my family are Serbs.
There is no way on earth that Serbia and Greece can be one country. In fact Serbia is more compatible with all other countries in the region except Albania, Greece, Romania... (interestingly all aforementioned countries have a huge but forbidden slavic/serbian history).
So what is best for Greece? i'll tell you right away. Greece as is designed to exist since 1800, is doomed to be a constant failure. Our only chance is to start be antagonistic with one another and clearly spot the quality and values among Greeks and then start trying to be better. What i mean with that? I mean that we must become Greeks. If we abandoned the idea of being vlahs/albanians/slavs and we chose to be greeks then we should do it right.

MAKE CRETE and CYPRUS (the creme de la creme of Greeks) immediately the centers of Hellenism, and let the others follow those LIVING GREEK examples.

All elsem is doomed to fail. Mark my words.

the only way is federation pnly then will be peace in balkan, all the minorities will have the right to call their self as they want from the moment which they dont undermine the state structure , serbia alone cant succeed , kosovo problem is touching "macedonia " congratulations brate you are coming more south

But Serbs have sins they have to admit, wich created horribe consequences and cast long shadows. The two abysmal moments were 1885 when Serbia attached Bulgaria without being provoked (Bulgaria then annexed a Bulgarian populeted region known then as "Eastern Rumelia"). Until then all modern wars were between the Christian nations and the Ottoman Emprire. This absurd war between Slav and Orthodox nations would have remained a freak if in 1913 Serbs did not refuse to honnor their traty with Bulgaria signed only an year earlier concerning the region geographically known as Macedonia.This refusal for a second and not for a last time caused a war between Cristian, Ortodox, even Slav nations. Odd as it looks, the stability of the region would come when there is a permanenet Serbo-Bulgarian reconciliation! And that could come with the condemnation of the creation of the Macedonina miths "hiostory" and language with the aim of severing them from Bulgaria in SFRJ. A process grotesquly repeated today in Montenegro on anti-Serbia agenda. Accepting history as it was will end the Greek-Macedonian dispute and the rediculous antiquisation of the former Bulgarians in Skopje. It will create an allience between Belgrade Athens and Sofia. It would be only a matter of time befor Zagreb knocks on the door...
