That's a bit much I have to say, there's no reason why medical supplies shouldn't be getting through to the sick and elderly.

The Serbs in Northern Kosovo do not accept the KLA thugs are their representatives. All the KLA thugs want is to kill them, ethnically cleanse them, or take their organs to make some money on top of their drugs and smuggling businesses.
(Milan, 31 July 2011 19:34)

Now you know why Albanians don't want to live under Serbian rule. They don't want to accept Serbian representatives like Ivica Dacic who until yesterday was Milosevic's henchman.

Without Serbian consent, Kosovo will never be able to become a country. (ashraf suwaijani, 31 July 2011 22:46)

Of course, for Serbia...

As for they other countries, they do not necessarily care about what Serbia thinks; they are free to make sovereign decisions on what to consider a country and what not. Indeed, 109 of them considered Kosovo a country when they voted for its admission to the IMF and WB.

The Serbs are fighting for their own freedom from the oppression of Albanian rule. They are strong and they forced KFOR to leave the check points. In the end justice will prevail and good people will win over evil. Albanians had a good case when Milosevic was in power, but now he's dead and Albanians are acting like Milosevic did except that unlike Milosevic, they don't even have an internationally recognized country (75+ countries recognizing Kosovo Albanians' UDI doesn't make for a country). Stay strong Serbs, and you will win in the end. I'm sorry KALBS, you will never control the north. If you admit your loss you'll be better off. I'm sure Serbia would negotiate a good settlement with you and you'd all get into the EU eventually. However, if you keep insisting on something you'll never have, you'll all lose. Get over it and move on! Don't be stupid.

Naaah...this is not a big problem...
I have first hand reports saying that huge amounts of medicine and other supply came in this morning from Novi Pazar. Also, there are several other ways from north-east and north west to go. No problems. Keep struggling and all the best from most of the world population !!

The "kneel and squeal" policies of the coward Tadic now directly lead to death not peace. Appeasement is not peace. The "West" ignores its spineless shoeshine boy; Albanians openly mock his weakness. Once Tadic is removed by a patriotic Serb leadership, those crossings will be opened in five minutes without a finger raised by the empty shell known previously as the "EU".

I can't believe I'm reading this? I was there six years ago, and I'm sorry to see that it hasn't changed much... If both sides don't understand it's 21st century, it will be the same 10 years from now!

There's peace for several months, so people start picking up on life, and then, usually Albanians do something big that takes them all 2 steps back. Usually, they're given a Go by the UK and US.

Without Serbian consent, Kosovo will never be able to become a country. And Serbia, on the other hand is clearly frustrated by all the inertial punishing it's been subscribed to by the Brits and the US.

Good luck to both Albanians and Serbs there, I wish them all the best, and thanx God I'm not there anymore.

Nobody cares what the hospitals want to accept as their representetives. That does not mean though that the hospital can't buy supplies from other providers. If Hospital X buys medicines from, say, Merck, it does not mean that the Hospital is recognizing Merck as its representative. If the Hospital X wants to play political games with peoples' lifes, than it's its responsability.

So this no good for anybody situation moves to the next stage.

Now it becomes a humanitarian problem and potentially a publicity disaster for Pristina and the internationals.

Belgrade will be devising its own strategy now, probably assembling its own humanitarian supplies to be sent to Kosovo alongside the Serbian media and with as many international journalists as possible. When the aid is stopped at the crossing, whilst Serbs will have begun protesting on the streets as some die in hospitals etc, negotiations will begin on letting the aid through.

Pristina will already be gathering its own journalists around deliveries of food aid it says it will send to Mitrovica. Some of those supplies might get through.

Aside from the circus, what is clear is that Pristina's aid will not be adequate even if combined with aid from Serbia.

So Houston we have a problem, anybody with real ideas, away from the point scoring how we are going to solve this?

I ask again, are any of the actors involved capable of thinking more than one or two moves ahead? And although I'm not interested in scoring points, this particular crisis is down to Pristina's actions than Belgrade's.

Its patethic really, is this the best we can hope for in Kosovo? And isn't it time that the internationals got a grip on the situation?

I heard that goods and fuel are cheaper in N.Kosovo and even some albanians buy it there. Why are goods much cheaper than in Belgrade and Pristina? why some people get salaries even they dont have a job? and i bet that 200 people that are ''protesting'' are being payed by our goverment. If atleast 10 000 people go to protest i will understand that, but this is just a joke, and someone is making
huge money from all of this.

so, it is only Serbia that produces bread, milk and medicines? they HAVE TO come from Serbia, right? Don't they have bakeries in Mitrovica? And can't they buy stuff from other supplies?

I guess Serbia has to stop obstructing free trade so we can have Kosovan products sold in Serbia and vice versa.

The goverment in Prishtina will send food supplies to the north.
But as long as there are barricades on the roads, this is not possible.
Serbs have to remove the barricades and everything will be just fine.

This is bad really bad for the hospital running out of medical supplies.

Which also raises the question why the hospital has medical supplies only for a week and the same people are the streets; and where is 500 milion euros Serbia claims is been spent in Kosovo.

One police officer died and certainly people of Kosovo don't want more people to die, but should any die in that hospital blame Serbian government and none else.

International community has spoken: thats why bombing happened 12 years ago, KFOR EULEX and other agencies are there to help build institutions that protect lives of people of Kosovo not just lives of Serbs.

"They urged the international community to prevent this and open administrative line crossings in the north of Kosovo, and thus enable the delivery of medicines and other supplies"

The medicines and other supplies do not have to come from Serbia.

In any case, if they convince the Serbian government to accept Kosovo's custom stamps which are in accordance with 1244 and CEFTA provisions, I'm sure that Kosovo's government will also allow Serbian goods to come into Kosovo.
