Thaci is a liar. He said he would cooperate with an investigation into illict organ trafficking. He said that he has nothing to hide. But to decide to publish the names of Albanians listed in Dick Marty's confidential report is not to cooperate with the investigation; it is to stonewall the investigation by allowing extreme harm, death, or disappearance to strike at those Albanians by angry KLAists and thereby end any more information for investigators to follow up; to study; to vertify.

The ones you ask sure, do - but they are mostly bitter immigrants. I talked to many people in Kosovo and the usual opinion about Thaçi and his practices is very low and there is very rarely anything against Serbia as whole.

On some occasions my conversation partners excused them self for Albanians as whole. But they, sure, did it silently and firmly knowing, where I am originally from, not being a "usual" American.

The fact how the conversation happened was a sure sign, there is somewhat deeply rotten in that place.

bganon, this is what happens when a charlatan releases allegations and accusations and refuses to deliver the evidence. Remember, Marty is not a tabloid journalist (well at least officially he is not); and as such any report written by him, that fails to provide evidence has consequences and equals abuse of power on his part. The whole point was that for as long as Marti fails to provide evidence to the public, the UNSC, EULEX, the Hague or any international institution his report is simply a witch hunt. As such he leaves the door open to others to make use of it, and launch their own witch hunts. Serbia is launching its own witch hunt because it hasn't bothered even requesting one single prestigious international institution for immediate investigations, while it claims it has been sitting on piles of evidence for a decade. What is to stop tomorrow, say someone like Doris Pack (using her for the sake of argument) to come up with a report that states that all the Serb leaders have personally killed Bosnian children (theres a picture of Kustunica shooting an AK-47 if you google it) but she does not want to show any evidence; she's done this through reports from secret services of country X; that all the witnesses have disappeared and that her job is done? Clearly if these people who have immunity are not held responsible for their actions, and for their own reports then they can wreak havoc and even cause wars on a whole region and destroy millions of lives, let alone the democracy of a small land like Kosova. My guess is that Thaci is thinking forward. If the West decides to have a prosecutor to start an official criminal investigation he wants to be sure it leads nowhere. Marty mentioned in his report that he took extensive precautions to protect the identities of some of his witnesses and here is Thaci bragging that he will expose them. Is there a better way to show that future Western guarantees will be worthless and to encourage people not to testify?

EULEX has been threatened too. The recent attack on the car of James Albrecht - head of the department that works on corruption and organized crime - seems to show that Kosovo's criminal elite is getting bolder in defending its interests.

My guess is that Thaci is thinking forward. If the West decides to have a prosecutor to start an official criminal investigation he wants to be sure it leads nowhere. Marty mentioned in his report that he took extensive precautions to protect the identities of some of his witnesses and here is Thaci bragging that he will expose them. Is there a better way to show that future Western guarantees will be worthless and to encourage people not to testify?
