O'RLY?

Here is one scenario for you: A referendum is held in Kosovo, and 51% vote to abandon the UDI and return to Serbia.

I didn't say it was a likely scenario, but it IS a scenario.

How can any solution other than that taken by Kosovars themselves not be imposed? All who claim that the declaration of independence by Kosovars was imposed are either knowingly deceiving themselves and others, or cannot grasp the idea of self-determination. Let's be clear about this, self-determination is the only solution that is inherently NOT imposed. Anything else would be.
Since the greatest foe of imposed solutions seems to be Jeremic, I am sure he understands where Kosovo stands on this issue.

@Princip: it´s amazing! I think exactly the same, and from time to time I am writing it here, actually, the K-albanians will be left behind by their "friends"... sooner or later, but I am quite sure of it.

the sad thing about it is, they really believe what they are being told!

@Miri:
don´t worry Miri, taken seriously, there can be only one possible answer to the ICJ-question.

I am amused that so many Albanians so seriously believe to be "right" on this...

@Ylber:
right now it looks like the Serbs are moving forward, my friend.
I don´t see the same perspective for the Albanians at all! not that I wouldn´t wish the same good for you too! ...but it doesn´t look so, actually.

@EA:

but don´t worry! Serbia will prevail, and that will be good for the K-albanians as well!

Paula Robeson: ""Thanks to the statesmanship and vision of President Boris Tadić..." - this reminds me of many who before Mr. Jeremic referred to their bosses (e. g. Stalin, Ceaucescu, Kim Il-sung,and so on) in exactly the same manner."

What a skewed stance... the same phrase has also been used about Bush, Cliton, Blair, Chirac... all leaders through modern history.

Very good speech by Jeremic.

Jeremic put forth a concise and unequivocally clear message to the US help Tadic now or his party is down and out as its clear the US does not stand for its supposed principles of fairness, equality and democracy but that of "might is right". Either the US fully lives to its principles else get out of the Western Balkans as far as Serbia is concerned!

Chances of win-win solution still exists but time passes by and if win-lose is the US choice its not Serbia that will lose!

It's been said that "Il Duce" (Musolini) and Hitler have been two of the greatest orators of all time. They have been cheered by millions of people during their speeches. I am in no way comparing Jeremic to any of these two, I am just saying that stronger and better men than him have try to spread lies and at the end the falsity of their speeches has been met with their demise in due time.

One question for Jeremic. How did you answer the question coming from the audience: "If ICJ recognizes K-Independence as legal, would you recognize that decision?"

The answer, or better the refusal to answer, to that question completely blows off your entire pathetic attempt to hide the real state of affairs in Serbia's foreign policy.

Jeremic keep on talking about Serbian "compromise" which has to do with Serbian sovereignity over Kosovo. That CAN NOT and there will be NEVER a return of Kosovo/a under Serbian sovereignity. THAT IS CALLED STRAIGHT TALK or "NON MISSUSE OF THE WORD COMPROMISE".

I am truly and utterly blown away by this lecture. I am also concerned about the delusions that even the Serbian Government is harboring. I thought for a long time that Jeremic and Tadic were just stalling the Serbian people while understanding that Kosovo Independence is irreversible however now I am convinced that they truly believe there can be a different outcome. What they don’t understand is that this can not be under any circumstance. Kosovo is independent and this independence is unequivocally irreversible. Under no scenario can Kosovo return to Serbian rule. The U.S. has made Kosovo Independence and Bosnian Centralization the cornerstone of West Balkans strategy and this is supported by the EU as well. This is the vision for the Western Balkans joining the EU. Without Serbia accepting these developments they can not expect to be invited into the EU. This is fact regardless of what Jeremic wants to believe.
What strikes me even more is Serbia’s belligerence in the matter. Jeremic asserts that these are the only two obstacles to peace in the western Balkans however Serbia is the one posing the obstacles. Serbia lost her right to govern Kosovo when it brutalized and terrorized Kosovo’s majority population and Serbs lost their right to autonomy in Bosnia when they brutally massacred and raped a whole nation. An apology and a resolution do not even scratch the surface of achieving repentance and deserving forgiveness.
And to top it all off Jeremic has the audacity to state that when Kosovo declared it’s independence from Serbia on Feb 17th of 2008 Serbia “restrained” from using force for the first time in history. Was Serbia going to use force against NATO and the US? That is a ludicrous claim and he should be laughed at for ever even making such a statement. And at the same time the world should realize just how delusional this man and his President are.
If they were truly leaders that cared about their people what they would do is come out and say publicly that Kosovo was lost during the Milosevic years and because of his heinous crimes. That Serbia needs to focus on joining the EU and asserting her place as a regional economical power. Ordinary Serbs want jobs and a stable sustainable future. Most have never visited Kosovo and have no intention of doing so. Serb politicians just use Kosovo as a wedge issue to win elections and blind the Serb people to the real problems plaguing your country.
This Serbian policy of obstructionism is hurting Serbs in Serbia, Serbs in Kosovo and Serbs in Bosnia. How can this be patriotic? Keeping your people in a mythical delusional fantasy while they struggle to make ends meet. It’s the worst form of exploitation of a whole nation on display in the world today.
I would love to understand what kind of logic drives this policy but I am coming to the conclusion there is no logic here at all. Only delusion and fantasy. And we all know what delusion and fantasy can lead to. We only need to look back to 1999 to be reminded of that.
This region is trying to shed it’s war mongering nationalistic past and move west. Slovenia is an EU and NATO member and the living standards in that country put Serbia to shame. Croatia and Albania are NATO members as well and Croatia should be joining the EU shortly. After that you have Montenegro and Macedonia following suit. Albania is currently in the process of achieving Candidate Status for the EU and the economy there has been growing at a fast pace. The only regions living in depressed economic conditions are Serbia, Kosovo and Bosnia. All because of Serbia’s belligerent policies.
I wish peace and prosperity to all, Serbs, Albanians and everyone else in the region. But if Serbs don’t want to be a part of it then we will move forward without them.
