Mike, you and most of the Serbs and Croats here might hate me for this, but I'll say it anyway: Tito
(Dim Tuc, 7 October 2009 18:07)

Not the ideal choice because he had way to much (Hungarian, also White Russian) blood on his hand and he was a communist. And he had quite a few statues. But still much more decent choice than the nazi "poglavnik" Pavelic.

- His grand-son who wrote the poem about it and died mysteriously during boar hunt. There are still theories, that "boar" was essentially a Hapsburg "boar".

Habsburgs have a long tradition of breeding funny boars and building gallows. These things kept them in power for centuries.

Lenard,

There were many of "Zrínyi". The two I am referring to are:

- Croatian Ban who died defending Szigetvár against Suleiman

- His grand-son who wrote the poem about it and died mysteriously during boar hunt. There are still theories, that "boar" was essentially a Hapsburg "boar".

Mike: these were mainstream heroes, nothing odd about them.

Ataman,

I was thinking maybe someone more mainstream like Ljudevit Gaj, thought he may be too much of a proto-"Yugoslav". How about Stjepan Radic? Fat, jolly Radic? Or how about Goran Visnjic? The girls in the US just loved him on ER.

Ataman: I don't think so Zrinski he was more interested in hob knobing it with the rich and powerful like him not a Croatian patriot of the people. Also was more interested expanding serf system to enslave free people that was brought in from Hungary to Croatia. Lets not forget putting down the poor serf peasant he helped in slave to the land Barons who stoled the land from the people who owned it in the first place. In the up risings because people had enough in Croatia and Slovenia of the pompes ass users the Zrinski descendent's persecuted ruthlessly on the people for riches and status. I know the Serbs are having a field day on this. Anything to divert attention from their recent murderess programs in ex Yugo by Serbs. The statue will not be allowed to be put up if ever it is even made for a very tiny radical minority.

It just show continuation of Ustase state in modern Croatia. They can put monument but we will take it down. Remember Argentina?

1) Nikola Subic-Zrinski, in Hungarian better known as Zrínyi Miklós. The entire Zrinski family is pure glory and heroism.

2) Rákóczi Ferenc. Few know, he is 50% Croatian because his mother, Zrínyi Ilona was a daughter of a Zrinski and of a Frangepan.

3) Apropos, Frangepans... also glory and heroism, like Zrinski.

Forget that "poglavnik", he does not deserve to be called a Croat or even a Slav.

My word, how unusual! The Croats are planning to glorify their Nazi past?? Oh wait, they already do that with their offensive flag, which bears the emblem of the ustashe with pride. As an English citizen who loves Serbia like I love my own land, I find the continued European toleration of the neo-fascism of Croatia a mockery of democracy and Christian morals. While the Hague screams for Mladic's blood, Croatia and it's glorification of genocide and treachery is ignored. It's time the world opened it's eyes to the TRUE menace in the Balkans, and crushed Croatia beneath sanctions and punitive trade agreements that would reduce it to the only state that will make them see the error of their ways - complete and utter poverty.
