Outside the US you will find quite little of such naives who still believes that a US president means in this country more than Goldman Sachs or Morgan Stanley. If you really believe that Obama is more that a Press Secretary of the White House you are a really happy man. Then you must also believe that something would change should you elect McCane or Ella Fitzgerald !

After his fiasco with Nethaniahu Obama cannot afford speaking slogans in Moscow. Russia has got enough of good will but this is a very pragmatic capital where “No” is said as often as it is necessary with no tools to press upon Russia. So no matter what the choco says about Putin Russia will not swallow any hostile gesture or misbehavior. Be sure !

'I believe that Obama will be a "softy" and naive with the Russians during his presidency (main reason I didn't vote for him).'

When I saw the Hart-Hagley position paper that came out shortly after Obama assumed office I nearly decided to ask for my vote back. An interesting bargaining position - give the Russians everything they've ever wanted, then sit down to negotiate. ABOUT WHAT?

I'd rather see Joe Biden going to Moscow, myself - we all remember the problems it caused when Khrushchev got the wrong idea about Kennedy being weak and naive.

In any case, Kosovo is probably safer than Georgia and the Ukraine - the Balkans were a Clinton project, after all.

CG,

I believe that Obama will be a "softy" and naive with the Russians during his presidency (main reason I didn't vote for him). I was however slightly impressed that he - who tries to please to everybody - had the courage to label Putin as what he is, basically a cold-warrior.

It seems like Medvedev is being sidelined if Obama is meeting with Putin.
I bet you Puting will tell Obama just don't make any waves about Georgia and we will keep quiet about Kosova and we are even steven.

The American elites put a grinface (Obama) in front of the international community and think now that all other states will bow ,be fascinated of Obama and forget their national interests.
I think there should be following priorities in upcoming talks:
1)Conventional weapons disarmament rather than nuclear(Russia would benefit)
2)declaration that Ucraine and Georgia will not be allowed into NATO(Russia would benefit(in exchange for that maybe we could agree to a limited missile defence)
3)Stopping of the blocking of Russias acession to WTO and pipeline constructions(South and North Stream).
(Russia would benefit)

Also Obamas poor try to create a friction between the Russian government ("putin is living in the past")will fail miserably...

Mr.Medvedev ,appeasement with aggresors doesn`t work, alwaays keep this in mind...
