Here's how the Serbian MUP got involved:

The Serbian ministry came across the child pornography during the course of conducting court authorized electronic surveillance of a person suspected of infecting computers with the "Poison Ivy" virus, she said in court papers. The virus allows an individual to control an infected computer remotely.

The person the Serbian ministry was investigating was using the Poison Ivy virus in "an attempt to steal financial information from others by infecting their computers

more:

Carlino's computer was infected with the Poison Ivy virus, according to court papers.

Carlino's computer was monitored by the Serbian ministry "for approximately 24-36 hours during the period from approximately Nov. 6 - 13," according to court papers.
"During the monitoring period in November 2008, the MUP (the Serbian Ministry of Interior) observed the computer operator on the Carlino computer view child pornography, save the images to an external storage device and delete the images,"

I really don't understand how the Serbian police were monitoring a guy from New Jersey who isn't Serbian and has no connections to Serbia.

Actually, the man who was arrested was not a priest, but a so-called "youth minister" (lay preacher), member of a Pentecostal protestant church in a small town in the US state of New Jersey. But whatever his religious denomination or status may be, it is good that he was caught and exposed. This man should be tried in a court and if he's found guilty he should be jailed for a long, long time. Those who have read the Bible may recall what Jesus said about people who molest little children (Evangel of Luke 17:2):

- Bolje bi mu bilo da mu se vodenični kamen obesi o vratu, i da ga bace u more, nego da sablazni jednog od ovih malih.

- It were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he cast into the sea, than that he should offend one of these little ones.

Child Porn must be smashed as these monsters target the most innocent...which includes all children of all ethnic/religous/nations. I applaud MUP and the FBI for this arrest...now feed him to the fishes!
