It is a glorious day for international community, Balkans particularly. A shameful day for Serbia, some commentators in this site particularly. To defend what Karadza has done is beyond reason. A true hero (some Serbs should remember Nemanja after loosing the battle and surrendering himself to enemy on condition not to touch his people) does not hide, deceive, nor transforms into Santa Clause.

Its a sad day in Serbian history and i compare this arrest to the one of Draza Mihailovic. Tadic and Co. should be ashamed.

About 100,000 died, and nearly 1/3 of the causalities were Serbian, mirroring the population. Compared to Iraq or Rwanda or any number of brutal civil wars it was mild. But I guess only European lives count, not African or Middle Eastern.

Ultimately, the tragedy began with the disintegration of Yugoslavia and by who? Who destroyed a multiethnic society which was one of the founding members of the UN, OSCE, Council of Europe and other international organizations? It's was started by Slovenians, then Croats, followed by Bosnian Muslims, and finally a terrorist organization named the KLA. Matthew is absolutely right, based on those tragic conflicts where MASS extermination occurred, Rwanda didn't receive an ounce of political and media coverage as compared to Bosnia. Why? Because the west is founded on RACISM, and the Bosnia war depicted crying blond hair blue eyed society fitting within that agenda. Machete wielding blacks killing another tribe in the African jungle simply doesn't work and certainly doesn't sell the magazines, newspapers, and 30 second TV slots associated with top dollar prices. The countless lies of 200,000 killed Muslims sprinkled with charges of rape camps echoed within the halls of CNN daily, with an end result of NATO involvement and occupation of Serbian lands, both in Bosnia and Kosovo. This cannot last forever, and undoubtedly, NATO will collapse along with the deranged bureaucrat club named the EU.

Karadzic's arrest is ultimately counter productive. It will further alienate a Serbian population overcharged and demonized by a western society which has no leg to stand upon and judge others. With cheering Muslims on the streets of Sarajevo thanking SERBS for arresting Radovan, they also cheer for the release of Oric and others who murdered countless Serbian mothers and children during that same period. Hypocrites to the end!

There shall never be true reconciliation between these two societies...the struggle continues.

What a great day for our country! We finally arrested a man who more than anyone but perhaps Mladic has stained our good name. And it is hardly just a coincidence that it happened just days after Kostunica was ousted from power. For placing two unworthy men's freedom ahead of the interests of his country, Kostunica has a lot to answer for. I expect it is only a matter of time before we can also remove Mladic's monkey off our backs.

Belgrade populates 2 million peoples. I’m no a genius, but someone that famous and recognized by almost everyone in ex-Yugoslavia should have been pointed out earlier. How can you miss him? Did you see the beard? Did you hear, Mladic is waiting tables in Hotel President? Javier Solana ordered mineral water twice from Mladic. Come on people!

Just admit that he made a fool of everybody, another chapter from the past is closing for Serbia and the nation is moving closer to the European Union.

I also want for reconciliation to take place, and in order for that to happen, we Serbs must acknowledge that some crimes were committed in the name of our people, and that those who committed them tarnished the good image of the Serbian people for at least a generation. However, in order for that reconciliation to occur, we must put the crimes into perspective, we must not exaggerate or demonize an entire population.

Karadzic’s arrest is the best European makeup new Serbian government can do. This is farce that although Europe apposes it, it cannot buy it. It was done on the next day of the successful visit to US of leaders of the new country Kosovo, each Serbia is trying too hard to fight against.
NATO, EU and all international community call on Serbia to arrest Mladic too. I know when this is going to happen. It is going to happen when Serbia has the last, a very last hope to “keep Kosovo out” from wide range of recognition and international institution membership. And if they will decide that arresting Mladic is not worth to try for this reason (so if they understood there is no hope for Kosovo) then Serbia will arrest Mladic right when it is the time for getting the EU candidate status. Dear Smart,

I was publically called a traitor by my own people for appearing on television with a Bosniak humanitarian group in the Republic of Srpska. I am regularly accused of being Albanian here on B92 for supporting a peaceful partition of Kosovo as a solution to that issue.

I apologized for Srebrenica and reached out to the Bosniak people in person to foster reconciliation, but that’s not good enough for you is it? All Serbs are evil to you. You can’t even see the difference between a “liberal” and a “nationalist”.

Just because I stand up for the TRUTH and for calling it as I see it.

Yes, exaggerating the number of dead by 400,000 is racist and extremely offensive to all Serbs. The complete demonizing of all Serbians has got to stop. I’m somehow a bad person for wanting the truth to be told?

How do you expect for true reconciliation to occur if such wild accusations continue to be made on a constant basis?

You want to lay the blame for all the deaths at the feet of Karadzic. While I don’t not like Karadzic in the least, he is not responsible for everything. Tudjman and the Croatians attacked the Bosniaks as well, and just as brutally, not to mention Tudjman’s Ustashe psychological warfare designed to whip the Serbian people into an uncontrollable frenzy. I’ve seen Mostar with my own eyes and I know what fate befell its population. That city was utterly destroyed.


As a Serbian-American, what do you think I feel more shame for? What happened in Bosnia or what is happening in Iraq?

Up to a million innocent civilians dead and climbing, and you’re pissed off about a war that ended over a decade ago?

According to your philosophy and logic, a murderer and a serial killer are equally evil.

In my world view, what Hitler did to the Jews was far more evil than what the US did in Vietnam.

According to your logic we should not judge the different shades of evil and merely treat them all as equal.

Yet, I don’t see you expressing the same outrage for the innocent Serbian people who died in Bosnia. If one life is as precious to you as 100,000 or a million, you would judge all sides in the Bosnian war equally.

Michael hit the nail on the head, Bosnia only captured the West’s attention because the West is racist, and that was exactly my point.

In my humble opinion the World is a very dark place filled with Evil Men who rape, kill and plunder. Yet no one cares. I care just as much for the African that dies, as for the Iraqi, or Bosniak or Serb.

I also want for reconciliation to take place, and in order for that to happen, we Serbs must acknowledge that some crimes were committed in the name of our people, and that those who committed them tarnished the good image of the Serbian people for at least a generation. However, in order for that reconciliation to occur, we must put the crimes into perspective, we must not exaggerate or demonize an entire population.

Much of the distrust of the Serbian people towards the West was a direct result of these lies, propaganda and the blatant manipulation of the media and popular opinion.
