Opposition Serb Progressive Party (SNS) presidential candidate and leader Tomislav Nikolic says he will freeze his position in the party if elected to office. He stated in the north-western town of Kula on Tuesday that he would freeze his office as the SNS leader in case he got elected because he wished to be a president of all citizens. SNS leader "to “freeze position in party if elected” Addressing the citizens gathered in downtown Kula, Nikolic said that (former Yugoslav president) Slobodan Milosevic who was accused of dictatorship did not hold leadership in his party while performing the office of the Serbian president, and added that only Boris Tadic held office both as the country's president and the Democratic Party (DS) leader in his previous mandate. The SNS leader underscored that in case he gots elected president, he would not divide and separate citizens as he said Tadic did. “He divided us as soon as he got elected as the Serbian president,” the SNS leader said and added that Tadic had divided Serbia in the previous mandate into a democratic, pro-European and refined section on one hand and a nationalist Serbia which wanted to fight the entire world, on the other. He underscored that the president was the first in the line of defense of the Constitution and was not allowed to violate the document. The current government fired 600 judges and 200 prosecutors, and the coalition gathered around SNS will entrust the judicial officials with the task of examining all suspicious privatisations in Serbia and filing a report to the citizens, Nikolic said. The SNS presidential candidate underscored that when he was discussing Serbia making progress on its EU path, he was referring to a regulated country and added that he wanted to see Serbia become a member of the EU if this was feasible and if the community wished to admit the country into its lines. “If the EU does not want us, they will tell us to renounced Kosovo and Metohija and we will tell them that we cannot agree to such terms,” Nikolic stated and added that the country would continue cooperating in the time to come because it needed investments and technology to build factories which would produce goods for the Russian and all other markets. Igor Mirovic, the SNS candidate for Vojvodina Executive Council chairman, underlined that a policy that would cause disruptions between Vojvodina and Serbia must never be allowed to come up again, and added that Vojvodina had to have its rights and obligations instead of being regarded as a rock hanging around Serbia's neck.
