The European Union has announced that yesterday's elections in Georgia's breakaway republic of South Ossetia were "illegitimate". Brussels said "it would not accept" the results of the vote. Abkhazia and South Ossetia have so far been recognized by Russia and Nicaragua. South Ossetian President Eduard Kokoity's party Unity convincingly won in the elections, news agencies said.
