The “Antifa in Action” anti-fascist movement held a so-called flash mob protest in the center of Belgrade in support of gay rights. A group of several dozen activists ran through the city with gay pride flags in support of the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender community in Serbia. Anti-fascist movement performs flash mob protest The movement has been doing similar actions over the last weeks in order to announce and raise awareness for the anti-fascism march “Solidarity Against Fascism” that will be held on November 9. The activists began the flash mob action at the plateau in front of the Philosophy Faculty, where the Pride Parade was scheduled to be held, but was then cancelled because police could not guarantee the safety of its participants. After running through Belgrade’s main pedestrian zone with gay pride flags while chanting the slogan "solidarity against fascism,” the action continued at Belgrade's main square, where the activists reminded of the violence against members of the gay community—specifically the 2001 pride parade that was broken up by hooligans and clero-fascist groups who savagely assaulted participators in the parade. The movement stated that Saturday’s flash mob action sparked a lot of interest and delighted many Belgrade citizens who were in the city’s center at the time. According to B92’s sources, the real protest against fascism will begin at 14:00 CET on November 9, at the Nikola Pasic square, after which participators will march to the monument to victims of fascism and then to the plateau in front of the Philosophy Faculty, where the main program of the protest will be held. The activists also announced the protest by putting up posters along the projected path of the march, changing the names of the streets and main squares to names such as “Anti-fascism Boulevard,” “Refugee Street,” and “Plateau of Solidarity.”
