Three-day lawyer protest to cripple courts

Members of the Serbian Chamber of Lawyers (AKS) will begin a three-day protest on Monday. The attorneys will not attend any of the trials scheduled for these three days and refuse to render their services to clients, in protests against the adopted government decree which obligates the lawyers to use fiscal cash registers as of March 1, 2010. Three-day lawyer protest to cripple courts As the result of the protest, no trials, hearings or investigative proceedings—which require the presence of lawyers—will be held in Serbia from Monday through Wednesday. Lawyers are demanding amendments to the decree included in the law on fiscalization, under which lawyers are obligated to register their work through fiscal cash registers and to issue receipts for their services, AKS President Dragoljub Djordjevic told the Tanjug news agency.

As the result of the protest, no trials, hearings or investigative proceedings—which require the presence of lawyers—will be held in Serbia from Monday through Wednesday.

Lawyers are demanding amendments to the decree included in the law on fiscalization, under which lawyers are obligated to register their work through fiscal cash registers and to issue receipts for their services, AKS President Dragoljub Đorđević told the Tanjug news agency.
